    Hi,

When I insert a Cd in the CD/DVD drive it gives an indication (drive light and HD light flicker) that is is being read, etc... but it then freezes the computer in that I can not do anything... the only way 'out' is to power off and power up again...

All is then fine until I try to read or load a Cd....

Just had the MB replaced a short time ago and it appears as if this started since then...

Before I take this box back I thought I would pass it by you folks and perhaps someone might have some clue as to what might be the problem...

    Thanks in advance..

This could be all over the map re: solution. You may want to check your cabling and drive settings - Master, Slave, Cable Select. You may also want to boot into safe mode and see what else is listed re: CDRom drives - remove them all and let Windows re-detect. Could also be ASPI conflict, could also be failed drive, could be lots of stuff. Sorry no real help but I'd take it back to the shop that replaced your MB - was it an exact duplicate or is it a different make/model Mobo. If different, and the shop didn't re-install your OS or at a minimum, wipe out and redetect all drivers, this is only the beginning of your problems.

    ;)

I realize there are MANy reasons for something like this.. I was just looking to eliminate as much as I could prior to bringing it back in to the shop.

    Thank you for your insight...

    Hi allawrence,

Rockster suggested removing the CD in Device Manager, I would also try removing the IDE controller. Does it have motherboard/chipset drivers installed? Could check the mobo manufacturers website for the latest drivers.

    Matt
Edit: I just wonder now whether it may be the same model , but a different version of the motherboard. You may have to investigate.
