Yup. I only have XP-pro home and work to play with right now. Hope to correct that in the next couple of days though.

Charles - I found the same article and suspected the same thing but the other two links I posted are places that are usually good about saying if an item is pro-only so I was hoping their not saying that meant home had it as well.

However, I did find This site that agrees tasklist isn't part of the original XP-home load but has a copy available for download. Might be worth getting it.

joeskys - you have to open a cmd window and run it from there.

Dave - Yup. Had completely forgotten about that. Must have been tired when I posted it to leave the email addresses as workable links though.

When I run cmd, I get a "C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe " titled window
with C:\Documents and Settings\Joe>
"tasklist.exe" is in my Installation Files. I have tried all that I can think of
to run it and keep getting "Not recognized as an internal or external command ..
What command after \Joe> must I use?

Joe, move tasklist.exe to \WINDOWS\System32 - will execute from there.

Look at Newt's and my posts for the various syntax's.

Charles: I did as you said in post of 6/16. When I try to open it, the
results are the same. Just guess it's not meant for XP Home, unless you have another suggestion. I'm just getting around to getting caught up on some of
these experiments after fixing a prior problem of not being able to access
the internet. For years I have been blaming my ISP and Verizon for various problems. Finally boiled it down to the phone company. Proved it to them and they gave me a new line. Now I'm running like I was on cable and have
dial up. Might be a solution for others

joe - tasklist is not fully functional when placed on XP-home but it should certainly run and tasklist /svc works.

Are you opening a DOS window using start~run~cmd and doing tasklist /svc from there? Maybe even c:\windows\tasklist.exe /svc.

 

I was just aboout to reply to say I have Home and works for me after I moved tasklist.exe to \WINDOWS\System32.

What do you get?

Newt: Your 1st suggestion worked. Haven't tried the 2nd yet.

Charlesid that. Cut tasklist.exe from desktop to Windows/System32. When I
open it, it flies by in 10th of a second in a black box. When I hit pause, I was able to stop and read it.

Now---I get 2 different readings...When I use Newts cmd>tasklist svc,the
window has 3 columns, 1- Image Name, 2-PID, 3-Services.
Charles way, I get 5 columns: 1- Image Name 2-PID 3-Sessision Name
4- Session # 5- Mem Usage and 7 entries less.

Joe, here is a link to the MS Doc on tasklist explaining the various sysntaxes and what the results mean.

There is a space between tasklist and \ and then you type the various commands right after the slash.

Charles: I checked out your link. As happened in the past, some of these apply to XP "Professional ", but as in previous posts, I am able to force it in "Home ".
