Installing Win2K Pro onto PC. FDISK'd machine, booted from Cd and let Windows create partition and format it

Once files are copied from CD and reboot happens file copying starts again but then stops saying that certain files are not there or are corrupt. re-inserting the Cd doesnt help.

I've tried 3 different CD's, formatting as FAT32, formatting with 98 and then loading CD drivers froma config.sys, copying files without SMARTDRIVE,evreything

PC is bog standard, no ATA 100 or RAID or anything clever but will not work - any thoughts ?

    TIA

Right off the bat I'd say maybe create the install partition yourself and format and copy the whole contents of cd to hd and install from hd. Then after it installs you can convert to ntfs if you wish. If your making 2 partitions...one for os and one for data and applications, I usually make os fat32 incase need to repair files from boot disk, and make data partition NTFS for the increased security and encryption.

    Hope that helps.

Check your RAM. Try removing/swapping out modules if you can. What video card is being used?

I had the same sort of thing happen when I built my computer. What I did was let it finish its install, then I booted from the CD again and it fixed itself on the second install. Everything was fine until I inadvertently turned on password protect and locked myself out - but that's a different story. As a side note, I reformatted and reinstalled Win2k after that password problem with no problems with missing files.

As was mentioned, RAM. Had same problem and turned out that a RAM module clip had opened.
