Ok, so in the end i have had to allow windows to be able to do its windows ICS wizard, which really hacked me off because i thought I could do this by myself. Now that the network is working, is there anyway I can change the IP of the computers back to the way I want them, which was:

    Computer One 192.168.1.1
    Computer Two 192.168.1.2

The computer which connects through the main computer to connect to the Internet is currently set upon a dynamic IP. Can this Ip be changed back to 1.2 as stated in my original specification? whenever i try and change it the network just stops working. Any thoughts?

That *****. Can it not be done when it is in a client server network with win xp pro / windows 2003? surely it can be configured from DHCP or AD.

You might check the features of ICS on your Win2K3 machine. I haven't looked at it but may have more options.

Another dodge you could try - and again, no idea if it would work, would be to use a subnet mask that would put 192.168.0.x and 192.168.1.x in the same network. You would still have to leave the ICS host at 192.168.0.1 but the others could be in the range you want. 255.255.252.0 would do it.

Note that while you may not be able to turn off DHCP with the XP version of ICS, if a PC is set for a static IP address then it ignores DHCP so it wouldn't have any effect on the assigned address.

Even better would be to dump ICS in favor of a router/switch that could connect to whatever style of internet connection you use.

A better Idea is quite correct.

I have a Linksys 4 port Router/switch. 3 PCs and a Printer. One day this machine might be 192.168.1.100. and the next day it may be 192.168.1.103.

From what I have seen the address is asigned in the order the machines a turned on. But I pay no attention as everythings works anyway.

I have as yet to do anything other than hook up the cable from a NIC to the Router. And all is well AS LONG AS each has a unnique NAME.
