My internet seems to stop working and sometime it starts back up other times it requires a reboot. Im thinking its a windows issue because when it does go down and I try to access the web nothing registers on my zone alarm icon in system tray. Its like its not even trying. I'm on cable and noone in the area i know is having the same issue. Some times it craps out after 20min sometimes its an houror more. I've tried to isolate it down to one net enabled program I've been using but it seems not to be one specific one

I'm miffed. Any ideas would be apreicated.

    Hello ion,

Did you call the Cable company? They can run diagnostics on the modem remotely for starters.

It may be the cable. When I first got my DSL, the phone company was doing all kinds of upgrades. It took me about a month and a half to get a stable connection.

Have you tried forcing the modem to get a new lease? Unplug the power cord, reboot. When you get to the Windows splash screen, plug it back in and let Windows "find" it.

And just to cheer you up a bit, we had the same issues with cable. The company tried a dozen or more things that were supposed to 'fix' the problem over a period of about 3 months.

Nothing helped and we strongly suspected a bad piece of cable from their main trunk to our house. Cable TV was fine but cable internet was on/off/on/off/on.

We finally got DSL from the phone company. Not quite as fast but it works.
