We have about 8 machines on a LAN, all running Windows2000Pro. The server runs Win2000Server (our domain controller). One or two folks use Quickbooks Pro 2000 Five-User version. Recently, after lots of virus and spyware problems on one user machine, I finally reformatted that hard drive, reinstalled Win2Kpro, did the Windows Update etc., and reinstalled all the programs. BTW, I did all this while logged in as Admin. Quite a waste of time, but a nice clean install.... Now: Quickbooks appears to be installed correctly on this machine, but only works when logged in as Admin. When the regular user logs in, she authenticates to the domain just fine, but Quickbooks will not run for her; it gives four very brief, odd error messages in sequence, then quits. It tells me I must uninstall and reinstall QB. So I try to uninstall while logged in as the user, and it won't let me! Help! Am I missing something? :(

I have never played with the app so don't know if it offered you an install option of 'for this user only or for all users of this PC'. If so, I'd log in as admin, remove it, and reinstall it with the 'all users of this PC' option.

Failing in that, the next thing I'd try (since it's easiest and safest) is to add the user to security for the QB folder with at least read/write/execute rights and see if it runs OK then.

If no joy with either of the above and if you (or a friend) can do any vb script, do up one that fires off the app with runas and admin credentials. If necessary and to avoid having domain admin info even in the vbs file you could create a local admin account just for this purpose.

Last thing I'd suggest is uninstalling the app, making that user a Power User on that machine, and then installing when logged on as that user.

Newt- thanks for the quick response. QB does not offer the option to "install for multiple users" but I will try these other things today. GG.
