I recently got a new comp and downloaded my registered NAV 2004 from symantec. except now it hink i have both my registered versin and the trial Antivirus programt that came with the computer.. how do I delete the trial version? I don't want to look at annoying "register now" notes whent he trial period is over...

I thought I had unistalled the program before dl'ding my registered one. in my control panel the only program it lists is Norton Internet Security (which includes nav and is the one i paid for)...

any suggestions? also -- if i have to redownload my product after a clean uninstall.. is this safe to keep my computer exposed with no protection, as stuopid as it may sound??

**also -- further info -- One program is both the Internet Security and the AntiVirus 2004 (thats the one I paid for and dl'd).. the other is just the antivirus 2004 -- but they both have the same account ID number.. and when i scheduled the scan on my paid program the same thing appeared in the "trial" version program

is this just because norton has overlapping file configuration? both versions have the same expiration date -- sooo how do i get rid of just the AV one?? i obviously dont need two running at the same time??

    thanks --

Only way I know of is to remove all traces of Norton. Uninstall and then run Symclean and reinstall the full version.

No, it is absolutely not safe to be on the internet without protection. Several recent threads about folks getting hit with Blaster, Sasser, or both after clean-loading (format, install) their OS and going directly to try and load Microsoft security patches.

You need to have everything already downloaded to your PC so you can go off line for removal and reload.

Ok now Im confused -- if I do Symclean it will take away all my norton files, correct?? so how am i supposed to have the info already downloaded to re-load offline if symclean will get rid of it before i can install it?? i'd have to go back online to dl'd the program.

plus -- symclean says its not compatible with Norton 2004 yet and thats all i have

The download will be a setup file. Save it to your desktop. Run Symclean after uninstalling through add/remove to remove more of the installed components. This will not affect your setup file. I also recommend you download and install RegSeeker. Run it after the uninstaller to further clean up. I've never had a problem deleting everything it finds. Run it again and again until it has a clean run. Then reboot and reinstall from the setup file on your desktop.

Scratch that! As you said earlier, it's not recommended for use with NAV 2004. Just use the add/remove, reboot and delete the associated folder(s). Cleanup with RegSeeker. Then try a fresh install.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Just one of the reasons I won't use Norton. Try just doing the add/remove, clean registry (RegSeeker) and deleting folder, then re-install before going through all that manual removal.

Well I think I did everything right (minus the manual removal) but it still didn't work. oh well... both icons now have the same expiratin date and ID and everything.. so its kinda like my trial version got written over.. plus when i run a scan it updates on both places.. i tihnk i'll learn to live with it unless it starts giving me issues... i will keep the info handy though. thanks!!
