Hey guys and girls, I had to replace my motherboard because of a storm and of course the board is a newer version. XP gives me the choices to start up in Safe mode, SM w/networking, etc. but goes nowhere. I don't work with XP a lot but I read here a bunch. How do I get the computer to boot correctly with the new drivers and motherboard w/o loosing my current program configuration? Thanks in advance.

have you tried to do a repair install of Windows XP?

If not look here I prefer to use method 2 (Boot off the CD)

Thanks Bubba, I tried some other things and when ahead and install XP from CD. I reinstalled my programs so they would work right. I had everything backed up before I started.
It's working now but not the way I wanted.

Is it possible more than the Mobo got taken out with the storm? Until I got wise and put a box between my modems and cable and tel lines, and installed a UPS, I had several hardware disasters.

    What, specifically, is not right?

If I'm at home when a storm comes up I will unplug my PCs phone, power cords but isolation equipment is a great investment.

The storm took out the MB, keyboard, & mouse. It was a friends' and had OEM XP home. We tried to repair with XP Pro to no avail so he has two OSs and can still access his info after reloading the programs. Settings are still off but it works until we can figure out a different solution.
