I am having both problems, but only on one of 2 Dell machines (my faster one 2.66 vs 2.4).
Slow loading of IE is self explanatory, but I should mention that I have made IE options identical on both machines.

I also have problems when I try to go to a selection from a Web page that is driven by a Javascript command on the bottom of the page, There is no response when selecting that option. I also note that some Web pages will have a note at the bottom "Done, but with errors" when first selected. The slower machine will load the same Javascript driven selection without a problem. (I have no idea why there are Jave references at the bottom of the Hijack file)

I did have SunJava on the faster one and removed it since the slower one didn't have it.

    I ran the following programs:
    -dxdiag no problems
    -CWshredder no problems
    -spybot about 15 problems (removed)
    -Adaware about 11 problems (removed)
    - hijack file below

My other question is why do I get spybot and adaware problems every week even though I am using Ad filtering programs. Is it Junk mail spam?

Thanks for loooking at this-- Barry

Since you are using Norton, see this thread.

    http://windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=30524

The 016's are ActiveX controls used by Java and are normal to have, from Sun Java. They are outdated though. Click tools>IE Options then settings button in the TIF section, then view objects and delete them. Suggest you reinstall Sun Java. Current version 1.4.2_03

Ad blockers block just that, ads. You should install Spybot, from the link in my signature, and use it's immunize feature. On the immunize page there is a link for SpywareBlaster, which should also be installed and updated. That will help tremendously with blocking unwanted nasties. A firewall will help also. Some freebies here. Kerio, Sygate and Zone Alarm are popular here.

Hope something here helps. Post back and let us know. :)

Why is IE loading slowly? Do you mean the IE program, itself,is starting up slowly or that access to web pages is slow?
Have you cleaned out your Temporary Internet Files lately?
What programs are starting when you boot your PC? You really need very few and it is best to start other programs manually and then close them when you are finished using them.
A list of start up programs and comments whether they are needed are here
    http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php
The "Javascript command" at the bottom of the page is your status bar telling you that the link you have just clicked on is a javascript command. You usually cannot open these in a New Window. So if you are trying to do that, you should just left click on the link. It usually winds up being sort of a popup box, rather than a new site in a full window. (The status bar is just an information bar. Clicking on it will not do anything.)
Javascript, BTW, is different from Java.
"Done with errors" could either be due to errors in the programming of the page you are visiting (nothing you can do about it) or because your Security settings are too high (such as Disable)--which could preclude the use of javascripting or ActiveX controls. See IE Tools|Internet Options|Security tab|Custom Level. But if you can see the page OK, I would not worry about it.
We need a little more info as to just what the problems are. Are you keeping the AA and SS&D reference files up to date? Spyware detectors have no effect on email spam, though they will tell you if you have downloaded spyware from an email.
You do have one piece of spyware on your HiJackThis log (and therefore HardDrive). That is O4-TKBellExe. Get rid of it.

Thank you both for your helpful thoughts. I did change everything as in the first response, with no change in the Java problem.

The slow loading is both in the initial load and the web page load from one to another page.

The bottom of the screen Java script notation is what is present after I left click the link and hold it down. I mention this because just left clicking and releasing gives me no response (ie no popup), so when I held the link down with the left click that is what I saw. The question is why the javascript command is not being executed.

I really haven't removed temporary internet files and will do that. I will also read through the start up list. And obviously <grin> I will remove that one Hijack file entry.

Thanks for the help... this is frustrating.

    doctorbj--looking forward to further word.
Your javascript may not be working for the reason I gave in the paragraph starting "Done with errors ". And is your PC set up to require a double left click to activate a link?

    Hi WJ:
Unfortunately nothing seems to make a difference. Left clicking activates all links except for Javascript commands, i.e., new http pages etc. I changed the security setting to low per your suggestion and no difference.
I have turned off Norton's without any difference either.
If it weren't such a pain, it's almost comical to have the older computer work just fine and the newer hiccup on this problem.
One thing I hadn't mentioned was that I did have it clear up a couple of months ago after mentioning the same problem here and then it recurred.

    Barry

edit darn it now I see Dave has already said this :)

current version is 1.4.2_04 though :)

While internet explorer is closed (anyother browsers also)
    fix these
    O16 - DPF: {8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93} (Java Runtime Environment 1.4.1_07) -

    O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0014-0001-0007-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java Runtime Environment 1.4.1_07) -
    =========

    then go here
    http://java.com/en/index.jsp
    and click Get it now:

You'l probaly need to open the sunjava plugin in your control panel to the advanced tab use the little arrow to select the newest plugin

Dont know if it will help, but you should always keep anything that uses the internet up to date

    Thanks Dave and Lonny:

Yes, that was me a couple of months ago...and all that stuff was done back then and again now. I do indeed have the current Java on my system, with the settings you described. I doubt that the problem is there since the other machine doesn't even have the Sun Java installed.

here is the current Hijack file:

This won't fix the java problem, but it is something I missed before.

    O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler V3.exe

Pest Patrol says it is adware and should be fixed, and all files searched for and deleted.
