    Jeane--Good question.
The supposedly legitimate WinTools site says the following

"We did not write and are not affiliated with the programs Bubba.wintools, WToolsA.exe, WToolsS.exe, WSup.exe, WinTools Easy Installer and WinTools for Internet Explorer v2. These programs may contain spyware, viruses or trojans. "
"WinTools Easy Installer and WinTools for Internet Explorer v2" in your Add/Remove looks suspicious. The above statement would imply that "WinTools for IE" is legitimate.

You could contact WinTools and ask.

I would uninstall anything third party in you did not install yourself

In other words if you had installed the legitimate wintools you'd be aware of it.

I did e-mail WinTools about WinTools for IE. Haven't heard from them yet. The only thing I wonder is if the WinTools for IE is something I may have said yes to when asked if I wanted to download a toolbar from IE. If I did, is that toolbar the Win Tools for IE that was downloaded? I know I don't have the legitimate Win Tools, but was wondering what IE calls the toolbar I may have downloaded. Excuse me, going crazy now!

Back to sanity -- I will work on getting rid of the WinToolsA.exe, etc. that I know is the nasty bug. Will post back my hijack log when finished.

    Dave,
Did the HJT scan and checked those items you mentioned and fixed. When I went to delete WinTools (safe mode) I got a message saying: cannot delete wsup.exe. There has been a sharing violation. The source or destination file may be in use.

Also, when I try to remove WinTools for IE v2 from add/remove I get a message box that says: Other ad-powered software installed - please remove first.

I also have a WOWpapers utility (from hotbar) in add/remove that will not remove.

When connecting to IE I get 2 error boxes stating cannot find the page and another one saying runtime error.

I also have backup files from the hjt scan. Should I delete them?

Here is my current HJT log:
    Logfile of HijackThis v1.97.7

Scan again and place a check next to the following. Close all other windows and click fix.

Open task manager and end process on the following tasks if present.

    WToolsS.exe
    WToolsA.exe
    WSup.exe

Open C:\Program Files\Common files and delete Wintools folder. Won't delete? Download and install Move-on-Boot. You will have a new option to delete on next boot when right clicking a file. Open the Wintools folder and use it on those three executables. Then reboot. You should now be able to delete the folder. Empty the recycle bin. Update Ad-aware and run. Reboot and run Ad-aware again. Reboot and post a new log.

Look for and delete any unrecognized toolbar folders. Look for and delete any WOW or Hotbar folders.
