Hi everyone. When I pop in my Medal of Honor cd, it will just sit at the part where the files are supposed to be installed. Nothing happens. After about 10 minutes, I decided to put an end to it and I hit control-alt-delete and bring up the task manager. I end the task and then I get a message saying "an error has occured while launching the setup. The Remote Procedure Call failed. "

Does anyone have an idea as to why this would happen? I have used this cd with my Windows98 with no problems. How can I get this game installed?

I also used the search but nothing came up about RPC failure.

    Thanks.

I think this was moved from XP or 2K to here. If so, are you up to date with your security patches? If not, you need to be. MS03-039 in particular.

In this particular case, I'll make a guess (note: this is a guess) that the game is causing RPC or some associated service to bark and hang.

RPC service is pretty vital and has lots of pieces depending on it so you can't do the usual thing of stopping it and setting it to disabled at startup from normal mode. Maybe from safe mode and if so, I wouldn't swear what the effects would be.

If you really like the game I suppose you could give it a try. Just make sure you are disconnected from the internet (and your network if you have one) until the deed is done.

If you do disable RPC service and things go badly, you can boot from the XP install CD to recovery console and at the command prompt type in
Enable RPCSS Service_Auto_Start and press enter then type exit and reboot.

The easiest way to disable RPC is to use the DCOMbobulator, while there why not Shoot The Messenger and UnPlug n' Pray.
The DCOMbobulator will not disable the vital aspects of RPC, just the unnecessary parts.
