I've heard you can disable the referrer string transmission in IE so that your information from previously visited websites is not passed along to subsequent sites. Can anyone advise how to do disable it in IE 6? Thanks.

You can prevent websites from accumulating information about you if you disable Java applets, ActiveX, active scripting, and cookies. You will however also lose the ability to use these features should you need them at certain sites.

    Open Internet Explorer.
Select Internet Options from the Tools menu.
In Internet Options dialog box select the Security tab.
Click Custom level button at bottom right to disable features.

To disable cookies, use the Privacy tab>Advanced.
