    Hi,

I am haveing a problem with a file that was created and saved in MY DOCUMENTS via Works 4.0. I know the program is ancient but my wife refuses to use any other for her letters and what not. Anyways she created a file and saved to MY DOCUMENTS and recently the system crashed and I was able to get it back to a point where I could back up and save her files. I re formatted the system and all is well there but one certain file that was writen in works 4.0 is now un-openable for some reason. The error I get when trying to open this file says,

The drive or network connection that the shortcut XXXXXX.wps refers to is unavailable.

Is there any way to get this file to open as it did? I am stuck and need to do something or my A** is gonna be a ringer so to speak :)
I dont know where I went wrong. I saved the original to a folder and then to a CD-RW, shouldnt it be in tact? Any help would be appreciated. I did try to rename it as well and that did not work

    Regards,
    FireDancer

I use Works 4.5a, and that is same exact message I got when I changed any file to Read Only. Just right click on the file and uncheck Read Only. BTW, it got this way by burning to a CD, then copying back to the hard drive. If you checked every file that was on the CD, they will all have the Read Only.

    Markp62,

Thanks for the reply, I tried your suggestion and to no avail I can not accsess the file to change to the read only box. If I right click on the file I get the same error I spoke of in the last post. I did find copy of the file on my other machine (thank god!) and this post will not need to go further.

I am going to do a little searching/investigation in my spare time on this subject for future problems that might arise, as well as the proper way to save the files so this wont happen again. Thanks for the help.

    Regards,
    FireDancer :)
