thats caused by it trying to remove the files from the profile. Try deleting the account without saving files.

    didn't work

I tried both ways, however only when I tried to save the files did I get the error. The other way it just got hung up and did nothing. Any other suggestions? When I "X" out of the delete user I get an MSHTA.EXE window saying the program does not respond and to send error report.

I just want the user gone

Newt, thanks for the link. I'm not concerned with the files, I just want the user gone. I think something is running in the backround and draining my computer. Whenever I try to log on under the corrupted user nothing happens, sometimes the desktop will come up with no icons or tool bars but more often than not I have to reboot the computer to get out. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If the user is other than a system account (Administrator, Guest, and a couple others) you can log on as Administrator and just delete it then create a new account.

If you like the account name, fine to use it again. XP recognizes the accounts by their SID (security ID) and will see a new account as totally different then the original since it will have a different SID.

    Hi mer534...

I'm assuming your trying to remove the corrupted user acct by deleting it from "User Profiles" under "System Properties-->Advanced Tab-->User Profiles" and your logged in with an acct that has "Admin" access??

Sorry to ask but it is not mentioned in your posts...

    Still not deleting user

Thanks for the ideas. I've tried to delete the user in both the control panel and thru system properties with no luck. The user was an administrative account and I changed that thinking it could be the problem, it wasn't. In the control panel when I "X" out after no activity I get the mshta.exe error and under system tools I "X" out to get a DLL error. Any other suggestions? This is really frustrating me.

Just so I'm sure that what I think I read is what you meant to say - the account that is giving you problems is the Administrator account that was created when you loaded the OS?

If so, have you just changed the account name from Administrator to something-else?

Let me start from the beginning

    Hi Newt,
On my computer I had two user accounts both administrative one for myself (the primary user) and one for my husband(administrative only to give him capability to do some things, he's computer handicapped) His became corrupted. Whenever he would click on it the computer would lock up and we would have to reboot. I created another user for him. I did not copy the user for fear the problem would reappear so it was a completely new user id also as an administrator. I have been trying to delete the corrupted user and have not had any success.
Thank you for helping me with this, it's driving me crazy.
