I feel that I should know the answer to this, but I don't.

When printing out a web page, which takes up just the top half of the window, the bottom half of the page prints out solid black. This has just happened with all but the first of the pages of a quite long tutorial. As I now have the Epson RX600 (splendid but guzzles ink), bankruptcy looms unless I can solve the problem!

    Can anyone please help me?

    Do it offline!

    Masochist,

Check the first page for an option like "printer friendly" and choose it if there, and save the file to HDD. Also check for something like "show all pages at once ". Always save the resulting page to your HDD first. I never print online because of the lack of control. Offline do file > print preview before printing, 'cause WYSIWYG. At worst, you'll have to save each page as a separate file and join them with some editor offline before printing or reading.

Personally, I no longer print stuff like that 'cause I don't mind reading it on my monitor, but I still save it to my HDD first, and read it offline.

I don't print from web pages either after bad experiences. I select the text if it is simple and copy it to Notepad (Notepad is bad for printing because the lines are double spaced, but it is good for saving files to disk because of their small size). I will save text with graphs, pictures, etc, as a Word file.

    Hi Masochist,

    This works for me:
Highlight the lines you want to print.
    File > Print
In the print dialogue box select 'Selection'
    Print

    Hello Sparrow, Matt and Roger

Thank you all for your suggestions

I'm pleased to report that saving and printing offline solved my problem, though it is tedious to do it, page by page, for so many pages.

Tell me, Sparrow, what sort of editor can I use, offline, to join the separate files (one for each page) together?

For some reason, Matt and Roger, highlighting is not possible for the pages of this tutorial.

Incidentally, quite apart from my problem, the tutorial is about Spybot and is quite good - read it at

Check out the tutorial from Spybot. Might be smaller.

    I'd use start > run > wriite.

    Masochist,

I looked at the tutorial. I would set my browser (mozilla, but any should do) to full screen (F11) to get the largest area and do a screen shot (prt-scr key) of each page and paste it (ctrl-v, click to the right of image, hit enter once or twice) into wordpad. You'll get a huge file, and probably should do only a few shots in each of multiple files, but that's up to you and your computer.

EDIT: I'd use same method for noahdfear's suggestion if you wish to see the graphics. :D

    Dave -

Yes, the 3 pages of Spybot's own tutorial and each set of sub-pages of the 5 main pages of the Spybot tutorial at Net-Integration are no problem to print. These pages "follow on ", so there are no spaces to print black and the pages can be printed in one go.

    Sparrow -

Many thanks for your suggestion. I should have thought of Print Scrn. Using it with F11 is a particularly helpful tip. Obvious, when you think of it but, unfortunately, I don't often do so! I followed your instructions using Word, with which I am more familiar, and all went well. :)

Incidentally, why do you (and other learned commentators) favour Wordpad?
What advantages does it have over Word?
