fatal exception oe 0157:Bff9A25B, when running a program on aol

I have aCompaq computer, running windows 95, i am on aol and when i start up a program called paltalk it'll run for about an hour then my screen turns blue with the fatal error.... I have tried downloading the patch, but it didn't work also i was told to just do a Quick Restore on the computer but i really don't wanna do that unless i have too, don't wanna lose everything. Please if anyone has any suggestions i would sure appreciate it. Also i was wondering if i could upgrade to windows 98 on here or if i had to buy a CD to do that, or if it would even be better to do that..
