Hmmmm......Should be cookie:yourusername@yahoo.com/. I'm gonna have to research this a bit. Maybe someone else will have some ideas. I guess for now, just keep clearing cookies. ;)

    Try this, courtesy of markp62.

    Restart in Dos Mode. Use these commands, these will delete the cookies, history and temp IE files and user.dat files. Press Enter at the end of each line;

    smartdrv
    deltree c:\windows\cookies
    del c:\windows\cookies\index.dat
    deltree c:\windows\history
    deltree c:\windows\tempor~1
Press Y if you really want to delete, make sure spelling is correct. The folders being deleted will be recreated when windows restarts.
    Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart.

"del c:\windows\cookies\index.dat" path not found, nothing happened on "deltreec:\windows\tempor~1 "
it has been default@yahoo.com as long as i can remember i try to keep cache, history, and cookies clean. I usually clear when I close explorer.
anyway you have helped a ton, if you can think of any thing else please post. I'll keep playing with it if i get anything i will post. Any chance that one of the programs i've loaded during this process is blocking that cookie? spyboot,search&destroy,pestpatrol,spywareblaster,spyhunter,cwshredder,hijackthis,ie-spyad, I all ready had spy sweeper, and norton internet security.
Should i keep all of delete some?
    thanks again,
    shammie

I haven't heard enough good things about spyhunter or spysweeper (spywaresweeper?) to warrant keeping them. Pest patrol is supposed to be good, if you want to pay for it. Spybot and Ad-aware are the only two anti-spyware programs you will need, always update first. Spyware blaster and IESpyads should be kept as they are blockers, not removers. And since you just installed them, we pretty much know they aren't the problem. HijackThis and CWShredder are detection/removal tools for when/if there are problems not found with S&D or AAW, and should be kept but always updated before use, which is pretty much only when you know there's a problem.

I'll continue to snoop around too. ;)

I'm a dos Dummy so for me and others with the same problem (not implying anything :) ) this free tool works great, Ive seen it recommend several times
System Security Suite - Program Homepage:
    http://www.igorshpak.net/

SpyBots immunize might be interfering with a cookie or something at yahoo mail, try disableing the bad download blocker and unimunize also prior to going there

If you have SpyBot 1.3 and Ad-Aware 6 you can safely disregard anything pest patrol finds, though it doesnt hurt to check with what they say.
it still finds googlems on my PC , which is just a site added to the restricted zone of internet explorer, if it were in the trusted then there might be a googlems infection. Understand ?
Or it coud be Norton interfering also.

Also consider getting another zip program "Netzip Classic" has couses problems in the pastes for lost of folks,
winzip is the most popular, contains no adaware, its a thirty day trial yes
but continues to funtion, so please when'if possible reqister it.

If you are up to date with IE and windows after you fix the dso exploit once with spybot you can safely ignore it or just keep fixing it, theres a monor bug in the includes for some people, strange It doesnt happen for the majority of people, they are working on it.

If nothing seems to help, it's possible that your browser has become corrupted, and may need to be repaired/reinstalled. Go to add/remove programs and click to remove IE6. You will get an option to repair. If that doesn't help, remove it, then locate IE6Setup.exe and double click to reinstall. If IE6 is not in the programs list, you can paste the following command into the run dialog box, then run IE6Setup.

    rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Setup\SETUP.EXE" /g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt"

After-thought  In Win 98, the IE repair tool is located at programs>accessories>system tools>system information, click tools from the title bar. One of these options should get the job done. :)

**you will need to visit Windows Update after doing any of these.

I just about to pull whats left of my hair out. Now when I visit certain pages I get a "IEXPLORE caused an invalid page fault inmodule MSVCRT.DLL at 017f:780154a7." I have repaired explorer and gone to windows update. my version of msvcrt.dll is 6.10.8293.0 any clues? Also when searching for msvcrt found program called PC_doctor on call said I had 124errors but have to buy to repair. Have you heard of this? or recommend one.
    Thanks,
    David
