Hello everyone ... i'm glad to be part of the forums. I openly admit I know little about networking in the windows environment. Here is my problem:

I have an older Gateway 2000 pc running XP. (This is what I found in the System Information, if this helps; x86 family 6 model 3 stepping 4 genuineIntel ~266MHz, 320MB RAM, 32GB HD. Network Info: ethernet card, dhcp enabled - a lot of information found in there i guess.) My other computer is an older iMac, running MacOS 10.3.

I'm looking to use a router to share an internet connection for the two computers. I have a Microsoft router that is functional (Microsoft Broadband Networking, 10/100 Ethernet wired base station, model MN-100). The router was previously used in a setup that included the iMac, and compaq laptop running XP, and another gateway running Win98 - with a cable modem of course.

The only help I found on Microsoft.com was by searching for MN-100. This returns issues others have had and the workarounds – however, I do not have the Base Station Management Tool that was included on the CD. In the old setup, we plugged everyone in, restarted all computers, everything worked. I cannot find this software on MS.com.

The problem is that the Gateway 2000 only works when the cable from the cable modem is plugged directly into the computer. It will not work with the router. The iMac has worked with it, as I said, but the PC has a history of not working with routers, and Linksys one also.

    Anyways – jeez, any help?

    :)

Should be able to get things working. First step is some specific information but luckily it will be easy for you to get and provide. The line below will create a text file so after you run the command, open the text file in notepad, copy the contents, and paste the whole thing here. Please don't 'hide' any of the information.

    start~run~ipconfig /all > c:\config.txt

(so click on start, then on run, put ipconfig /all > c:\config.txt in the blank space, then OK)

I'm guessing this info came when the PC was connected directly to the cable modem and was working.

I really need to see the same info when it is attached to the router/switch with the other PCs and not working.

Hey Newt ... sorry I did not get back to you soon. When I set everything up (the Gateway, iMac, router, modem), the iMac did not work this time. I was able to get an IP Address for it and for the PC, but still no internet. I don't have the #'s with me, but i'll post them when I get home along with the IPConfig.txt results with everything connected.
