Not sure if this is the place to be or if I should ne in NS, but I'm sure someone will tell me
I tried to upload a photo (jpg) on this site:
    http://www.creativepostagelabels.avery.com/postage_app.html
I keep getting a message: Page Cannot Be Found.
Cookies are enabled, cache is empty. Could it have something to do with ftp?
I never uploaded before. Any ideas? Joe R.

Have you tried with other photos? Are there any additional details in your event logs?

I just tried the site (and thanks, great idea that I'd never heard of but I may use them for some custom stamps myself). I didn't run it to completion but the pic I chose did show up as part of the stamp they displayed for me.

Newt: Pretty Cool  I just tried to get Epson's site and got the same mess. I tried to COPY a page on my scanner (Epson) and it won't inialize.
I ran Spybot and have several entries of wrong path. I recovered them but to no avail.
Which event logs are you referring to?? Joe R.

PS: I just tried Epson and it loaded

start~run~eventvwr. Depending on the machine you will have at least system, security, application logs and there can be others although not usually on a workstation (as opposed to a server).

Newt: Sorry it took so long to get back. I've been trying everything.
Ran the event logs and did not really know what to look for.

It has happened on several other sites, mostly when logging in and
going from a site to a link on the page. I have my security and privacy
levels to low, and disabled the XP firewall.

I use NS 7.0 95% of the time but its happens on IE 6 also.
I run Spybot-Ad-aware-HJT almost every day. A couple weeka ago
I cleaned out a lot of "stuff ". My host files have hundreds of entries, so I don;t know what to look for. Any chance of a corrupt file?

In another topic you mention port 20/21. Would that have any to do
with here? My message is "Page cannot be found "> when I try to upload
the photo or click on a link. The other topic is cannot upload files.

Hope you have some other suggestions. :)

    I'm confused.

    joeskys,

Can you be more specific? When does that message appear? when you're trying to go to the web site, or when you're browsing for the file (jpeg) to upload, or when you click on the upload button after choosing the file?

    I just ran Spybot-HJT & Ad-aware -all 3 came up clean.
On one site, it's when , after selecting jif file, and click to upload it that the mess appears. As soon as I'm do here, I'm going to the MS KB site.

    joeskys ...

Like Newt, I had no trouble uploading a picture. One thing I noticed in the requirements, though, is that you must have the Macromedia Flash Player installed on your computer.

I don't know about NS 7.x, but with Mozilla Firefox, I also have to have a plug-in installed to view Flash objects. Could that have anything to do with your problem?

Jim.: To the best of my knowledge I have Flash Player installed., but not the plug-in you described to view flash objects.

I just tried it again and now Even the web site is refused
It's probably something simple. like a setting in my Internet Options.
Didn't find anything in the MS KB.
OK everyone out there-what's your educated guess?? Newt? Lonny?
Ramona? Maybe even Arie??? :) Dave too?

Joe - I'm still hoping there is some good stuff in your event logs. Tell you what (since I agree it can get confusing in there)
    - open the eventvwr
    - empty all three of your event logs (right-click on the log, select to clear all events, don't save the contents).
    - close the eventvwr
    - mess around for a little while including trying the things that you know will fail
    - back to eventvrw and highlight a log section (like system) then click on View and Filter and uncheck success audit and informational messages.
    - open one of the sections and all you should now see are yellow warnings or red errors.
    - open the top error and look at it. If you think it might possibly relate to the issue, post a copy. Better to have a dozen with eleven that don't help than to miss one that we need to see.
    - after you either decide the event is not related or have made a clipboard copy, just click the down arrow to move to the next event.

LOL - I was looking at mine while writing up the how-to above and now I got this one that I gotta try to figure out. And note the friendly PC names we use here. Easy to tell this PC is my laptop, isn't it? :D

Newt: Thanks for your last post. Last night, not even my home pages would load. I did a few things and was finally able to load NS. I might have done a
system restore, did do a defrag. A few minutes ago, @ 5:30 AM, I turned this
thing on, aka my PC or the machine. It booted OK, I set a recovery time and connected to the internet. Read my E mail and loaded this thread. Everything
went the way it was supposed to. Where last night, it took at least 5 minutes
to just load my home page on NS. Then I did as you suggested and emptied those three files. With my fingers crossed, I'm going to try and load the Avery site and upload the pictures. Later on I'll check the event folders and get back to you. FYI, XP Home, no network, have network card disabled, but was fooling
around with network settings in Control Panel. Have privacy level set to low,
and only have XP's firewall. Joe R

    Newt: Here are the events.
After cleaning them out, I did as you said. Still cannot get my photo uploaded and now IE6 will not load-get message "Cannot be displayed "-
before it was cannot be found. Also "Cannot find server or DNS error. "
NS is doing great!! Hope some of the above makes sense to you.

Does make sense and does point to some things to check. I'll post specifics for you in a few hours. Gotta get ready for work in a little while and this will take me some time to put together.

Newt: Waiting for your comments on my events post. In the meantime I ran a recovery and a system history. In software (system history) there were 100's of changes having to do with networking, mostly with changing the user setting** I have been trying to run it again but it keeps not-responding.

Om March 8th I had a thread similiar to this on, and resolved it (I think) by downloading Q832894-MS04-004. I thing it was deleted so I did it again and
this AM everything was working great. :). I was fooling around with networking and did some clicking on things I know nothing about. How can I eliminate all network settings, so they will not effect my XP settings? Joe R.

** Just looked at the events in my last post and they showed these changes :(

Apologies. Got sidetracked and totally lost track of this one.

Try This for resetting back to the network defaults on XP.

If still problems, post back. And if I ever delay more than a half-day when I'm supposed to post something, email me from the link in my profile.
