Booted my computer and got an error message as follows:

    WJView Error:

Error: Could not execute Main: The system cannot find the file specified.

Home page loads up and everything seems to operate ok. However, wondering why I am getting this message and what I can do to fix it.

    OS...Windows 98...IE version 6...OE version 6

    Any advice?

Got your reply to the WJView error. Looked at the webpage and saw the instructions for regedit. Looked at them and followed the sequence but when I get to the run part I am not sure what I should be deleting. Can you provide any more direcetion. As you can see I am not that experienced.

Reading through the thread I posted I see where you have got to. Looking on my standby m/c which has Win 98SE loaded there are no references to WJView at all - probably not surprising as there is no problem on that m/c.

Look under RUN in both the Registry keys listed in the thread - do you see any mention of WJView in either of the Run sections?

If you do highlight the line which contains WJView under the Name column - go to the Menu Bar > Registry > Export Registry File. A dialogue box appears with the selected branch filled in with the key you have highlighted. Name the file - say WJView 1 and save it to your desktop. Then delete the entry which contains WJView - right click on the highlighted line > delete. Do this for all instances of WJView under Run.

If you have a problem the entry (entries) can be restored by double clicking on the reg file(s) you saved to the Desktop.

Post back with what you find.

    Computer Reboot

    att: PeteC
On the HKEY_Local_Machine.....when I opened the run folder I found a wjview folder for LimeShop. I had recently downloaded the Limewire file sharing music softwear and I guess this was part of the program for selling products. I deleted it and when I rebooted the computer the WJView error message did not come up.
I had backuped the registry b4 I deleted the wjview file.
    Thanks for your help;)

From that time onward whenever I start or boot my m/c this error message comes in the window.Of course everything working alright as Mr.hillinm said.I tried many times to get rid of this error and luckily I found this post.Kindly suggest me how to get rid of this problem ? I see something that was either not mentioned or is missing. Or maybe I missed it. But I just like to be sure users know about and are aware of it.

    BEFORE messing with any regediting;

#1-Make sure you check the C:\Windows\Sysbckup folder to be sure that the reg backups have been made. There should be one per calendar day. But ScanRegistry must be loading at startup for it to make them.

#2- Make sure you know how to get into DOS at boot up and do a scanreg /restore.

    mishrarc,

If you have the same error message ' WJView Error' follow the method outlined in the thread.

    For reference:

    http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/win98/1070058858

Do back up your registry first! When the problem is resolved delete the registry backup - it will be of no use to you as it containd the WJView problem! Make another back up if you like.

Looks like this thread was back in December 2003. Can't remember the detail but the issue has been resolved.

    WJView Error

    Hi,All of u Pete,Bolly bob and hollinm
I forgot to mention one more thing besides my postings dated 28 May 2004.When I started getting this error msg ,computer does not restart whenever restart command is given.Instead the dialog box of Wait,End Task and Cancel opens. When I click End Task button then only it starts shutting down and then restarts.Secondly Disable Fast shutdown dialog box is not found on Run->msconfig -> startup ->advanced. Earlier disable fast shutdown button was checked .I do not understand how it happened and where it has gone?

As you know I am having nil knowledge of computer system, I hesitate to disturb the settings of registry unless I am confident. It is therefore requested that please guide me step by step procedure for which I shall be highly obliged to you all.

As per the instructions given above, suppose I reached up to Run in the regedit, then what should be the next step? and how this registry should be backed up? Please guide me.Thanx for your valuable time sparing for me.

    mishrarc,

I want to be clear that you are getting the same error message as posted at the beginning of this thread
If you are then follow the steps outlined below ....

    1. In Windows Explorer - Tools > Folder Options > View - check 'Hidden Files > Show All Files > OK

    2. In Windows Explorer - open the Windows folder and scroll down to the folder Sysbkup and double click on it to open. Scroll down the file list to find the Registry Back up files - these are rb001.cab, rb002.cab up to rb005.cab. By default Windows keeps the last 5 backups - the last one rb005.cab should be dated with the current date when you started the computer. If these are present - good and proceed to the next step. If they are not present - STOP and post back.

    3. Go Start > Run > regedit > OK The registry Editor opens

    4. From the menu bar Registry > Export Registry file and in the dialogue box which opens type in a file name, say Registry 290504 and click save. A copy of the Registry is saved in My Documents.

    5. In Registry Editor navigate to ....

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Look in the right hand pane for any reference to Wjview, right click on the entry in the Name column > delete

    6. Then navigate to ....

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

and do the same - delete any references to Wjview

    7. Exit Registry Editor and reboot the m/c

    Post back with your results.

    WJView Error

Hi,Good Morning to all of you,
    Attn:peteC,
Thanks for your good advice but before your postings I had resolved the problems, however You gave the best advice and I have saved your directions for future reference. What I have done here it is.
First of all I downloaded Spybot S&D software, then after scanning I found that 147 items were infected, removed all the infected files and thus problem was removed. Now WJView Error is not coming. But after that a new problem created. I was neither able to shutdown nor restart my computer. Then I took the help of Norton system work2003, nav software. With the help of one button check up it was found that some shared files also were deleted which started giving problem for shutdown and restart. After that these files were restored with the help of windoctor. Thus shutdown and restart problem was also removed. Now at present everything is alright and it is now fully OK.
    With best regards,
    mishrarc

Delighted to hear that you have resolved the problem ) - thanks for posting back with the solution.

You should also run Ad-aware - updated, as well as Spybot as it finds some items of spyware that Spybot does not.
