Question: I've been getting a blue-screen errors frequently on restart/shutdown or sometimes just anywhere inbetween. It says error is in OE:0028:C0030AEC.

Somewhere on the internet I found a bunch of reasons for this... on the Help tutorial it said possible system.ini or win.ini file corruption... it told me to remove them from select startup and see if it reboots normally --
    and it did.

Now my question is this: 1) is ths really the problem? 2)how do I detemine which file it was and 3) is this safe for me to do myself? When I unchecked them and rebooted I get a weird high definition, large size/text screen with my wallpaper all pixelated and messed up. I'm not a comp whiz, although I'm OK -- but I don't want to tamper with anything over my head --

    Suggestions???
    Thanks in advance -

My first though on this is that you could have a corrupted video driver. Some of the drivers are called from the System Ini file.
Right click on My Computer and select Properties and click on Device Manager tab, look for yellow ? or ! .

Get memtest86, and test your memory, it could be failing.
If it passes, you may have some corrupted files, which can create these errors. Overheating, caused by dirty fans, air intakes can also cause these errors, you do seem to leave it on, a lot of dust could have built up.

Mark.. not only is that website confusing and I'm not sure which link to keep clicking on.. but I'm not happy with the fact that its lined with **** advertisements.. can u send me anywhere else???

The blue error screen is still happening.. A friend of my mothers who worked on her computer suggested it was just the Millenium program as a whole starting to fail on me... I won't upgrade til next summer, I hesitate to upgrade on this to XP because I'm only running 120 RAM

    Here's a direct link to download Memtest86 - http://www.memtest86.com. No **** ads, either. :)

I found this on VWIN32 errors:
Vwin32 is a virtual device loader also called a VxD. It provides developers of VxD with useful services. These services help their devices communicate with the operating system.

An example of such a device would be your video card. The device driver, which is the software that makes your video card function, uses these services to function with the operating system. The most common culprit for this type of error is the video card, but it can also be any one of your devices.

The best way to get to the bottom of this type of problem is the process of elimination. From the "Systems Icon" in the Control Panel, click on "Device Manager ". Expand the Video Adapter section by clicking on the "+" sign. Then click on "Update Driver ". You will have to go to the manufacturer's site to retrieve the latest driver. This is a common procedure for updating your drivers, but do follow the manufacturer's instructions for driver installation.

Chances are, your video card is the culprit. If this doesn't help, perform the same procedure for other devices, like your modem or network adapter.

Sorry if I offended with that link, but those are just ads for online personals.

OKay checked out the memtest site... but when i go to open it my comp (or winzip whichever) tells me i dont have the proper programs to open it, and it opens in boxes and non-readable characters...

bigger than that is i have tried to update all drivers possible from compaq and from device manager, but it keeps telling me i already have all the best drivers working for the device....

    still confused :-(

What you need to do is put a floppy into the drive. Unzip the files into a folder. Double click on Install, you will be prompted as to what drive, type an A and press Enter, and it will create a floppy to run Memtest for you. Then boot the computer with it.
