Using MS Word-2002 (10.2627.2625 ). I open the document, it shows in the task bar as an open document. Click File, then the Print command. Document name in the task bar turns orange, and starts blinking. Can not close document using the close X in the tool bar. Rt. click Doc. in the task bar, and the print dialog box opens. Click OK in the print box, and it prints. Can select the print button in the Programs tool bar, or the print button in the print preview, and the Doc. will print. Only, when I try to print from the print command in the File on the program tool bar, does it turn orange and start blinking. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Word. I can type a document in word pad, save it, and it prints fine. From the File Print command. Any help greatly appreciated.

A blinking tool bar/title bar in Word is often a symptom of a corrupt normal.dot file.

First, make sure all hidden files are showing by going to My Computer (or Windows Explorer), then Tools>Options>Advanced tab, check "Show hidden files and folders," click OK.

Then, with Word closed, search the harddrive for "normal.dot" (without the quotes). Delete all instances found. Word will create a new one next time it's opened.

Open Word and see if the print command works as it should.

"Normal.dot" is the global template for Word. It is not installed when Word is installed but is created when Word is opened the first time. That's why reinstalling and/or repairing Word does not affect it.

    Printer Problem

Ran a search on drive C. No file for "normal.dot" found. This is wifes computer. Went to my computer. Using Windows XP Pro and Word 2002, same as her. Checked show hidden files. Went to search, typed in normal.dot, search drive C. Came back no file found. My Word prints OK???
What do you think? Did I type it in wrong?

Try downloading Agent Ransack and doing the search with it.

AFAIK you must have normal.dot (document template file) on the PC to be able to create a new word document with any version of MS Word.
