I recently bought a new computer and have installed my old programs and games on it and everything was working OK. However, now Need For Speed 2 and Pinball Arcade which require the CD to be in the DVD-ROM and Clip Tray (a freebie I had installed several years ago) have decided not to work. They had worked on XP for a week...then I updated DirectX 9.0 to 9.0b End-User Runtime from Windows Update and it can not be uninstalled. I also converted my programs partition from FAT32 to NTFS. I also changed the drive letters of the DVD-ROM and CD-RW to Y and Z. I was going to install DirectX Media but I don't find it anywhere and I can't remember if I found the download or not! I have tried reinstalling the three programs but it didn't help. I tried the XP Compatibility Mode without change. When I try to open Clip Tray a window comes up "ClipTray has encountered an unexpected error. For more information, refer to the help file. Error #68" but I do not have this in my help file! When I put the game CD's in the DVD-ROM drive the games open briefly and then a window comes up "Abort Message: Movie file not found" or "to play you must have the game CD in the CD-ROM drive ". Does anyone have any suggestions?

From my own experience there may be the problem. If the games were install from say F: and F: has been changed to Y: then it is possible that the files just can't be found. As the message says.

Whether changing to NTFS had any effect I do not know. But I do know about changing CD lettering.

You may have to re-install the games from the new drive letter. I had to with a couple that needed the CD.

I also had the same " File can't be found error " when I moved a program from one partition to another.

Something I should have added in my reply but in my old age I forgot.

One reason for programs not finding the newly lettered CDROM my be in part due to the fact that some programs have their own .INI file within its' own folder.

If this is the case then just finding that .INI file and changing it might do the job.

The FAT32 < -- > NTFS should not have had any effect whatever so I suspect the issue is one of the others already mentioned above.

Thanks everyone for the information. If I get these three programs to work I will post the solution. I had all three working for a week on XP so I should be able to get them working again. In the meantime I just feel sorta lucky as yesterday I checked ALL of the programs on my new computer and they all work OK except for these three. Many of my programs are quite old and had already been used and abused on Windows 95 and 98. As the install files were not available for some stuff I moved a few program folders instead of installing normally. I have recently partitioned drives, deleted, resized and moved partitions and this has been a great learning project for me. Thanks again!

Partial success! I like to use Clip Tray daily and it now works normally so I am a happy camper. I accomplished this by deleting the ClipTray folder and then I copied the ClipTray folder from another partition which I had not deleted yet and it worked.

I uninstalled Pinball Arcade and reinstalled the program and it also works.

This leaves Need For Speed 2. I again uninstalled the game and reinstalled the program BUT it does not work. Through the years this stupid game has given me a lot of trouble at various times but I have always gotten it to work. My grandson will play the game for hours even though he has many better and newer games at home which he rarely plays.
    Thanks again for the help.

If you are using a Backup Disk of Need For Speed 2, that would be the reason for it not running. That's exactly what it is designed to do if you are not using the original Disk. It has something to do with Copy Protection. You are entitled to make a backup of your original by law but Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 will not run on a backup disk unless you use some special "changes" which are probably registry changes of some kind. Even so they are on Clone CD Forums and assumed to be legal to have and install. If you have a Burner in your system the people at "http://clone.cd/phpBB/index.php" will tell you how to install it(them). If you are not using a Backup Copy, please disregard this.

I've made so many changes in the last month that I had forgotten about the CH Products Fighterstick USB game controller and CH Products Control Manager I installed last week. The device was recognized immediately and the software installed OK. I did not calibrate it or download a driver as I thought I would delegate those tasks later. I am a member of the generation that needs a LARGE TEXT paper manual for hardware which explains in detail how to do this stuff properly.

I sorta remember having a problem with this same game years ago that was resolved by downloading a driver for my old CH Gamestick.
