I'm running Windows 98SE and NS7.1. I'm trying to log on to a particular web site and I get this dialog box, "you must have cookies enabled ". I have other sites I log on to with no problem. I went to Edit>Preferences>Privacy and Security>Cookies and Enable All Cookies is checked.

I inadvertently deleted all my passwords, which may figure into the problem. At any rate, I can't log into this site to make any changes. Any suggestions?

I recently switched to another ISP and I didn't realize how many problems that would create.

    Hi lbfoto,

When you look in Cookie Manager, click on the Cookie Sites tab and check to see if the site is listed as one which cannot store cookies. If this is not the case, then look at Advanced | Scripts & Plugins. Place a tick beside "Read Cookies" - but only do so for this site. If it doesn't help, then disable the setting.

I had that problem with my ISP's web mail site using Netscape 7.1, but I could click on the X in the right top corner of the dialog window "you must have cookies enabled" and I could go ahead and log in. Try that too. I have not experienced the problem since using Mozilla.

Let us know if any of the above helped.

I went to Cookie Manager and the site was blocked. I unblocked it. I went to scripts & plugins, read cookies was checked. I unchecked read cookies and that didn't help either.

The dialog box doesn't have an X box in any corner.

Then press the Esc key, and see if that will bypass the dialog window.

    If not:
Close Netscape and Quick Launch, and open Windows Explorer
    Navigate to your *.slt folder
    Rename the cookies.txt file - Xcookies.txt

Open Netscape and see if you can login to the site.

I'm out of my league here. How do I find my *.slt folder? , does "xcookie" represent the name of the web site?

Sorry about that! Your *.slt folder is located here:
    C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\xxxxxxxx.slt

The cookies.txt is your cookies file which is located in the *.slt folder. It may have corrupt cookies, so I am having you rename the file, so Netscape will create a new cookies.txt file when restarted. If the file is corrupt then you may be able to access the site which is unavailable to you now. Rename the file Xcookies.txt, which is just an example of what you can use.
