I have a Dell with WIN ME and 256 Ram and 82% resources after reboot. IE loads very slowly, the blue line indicator moves quickly but it loads the graphics at a snail's pace. So far I have cleaned temp files, cookies etc. ran Spybot and Adaware, Swatit Pro Trojan cleaner, Reg supreme registry cleaner and defragged. Nothing sems to clear up the problem. The rest of my computer seems to run OK, except sometimes it seems to hang and the hour glas keeps flashing. i have run Hijackthis and these are my results. Please help.

Discovered problem is Norton Firewall but don't know how to fix

I have determined that it is Norton Security that is caising the problem but I don't know how to fix it. When I disable Norton Firewall/Security the pages load very quickly. Any suggestions on what is the problem? I have been running Norton Internet Security 2002 for 2 years with no problems. Problem developed slowly over the last couple of months until the slowness of IE6 loading was unbearable.

You have at least one item that is known to cause the sort of issues you are seeing. Take a look Here and check the details on
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TgAddServer] "C:\@Home\tioga\bin\tgshell.exe" /fds "http:\\www\download\tioga"
Do a search on that page for TgAddServer

    IE slow

I had the same problem using Norton and couldn't figure it... I ended up going to a free firewall Now i wisk i could still play with it ... maybe the enable script blocking option ? Mine worked well, then I played with it and messed it up- I think that's one thing I messed with but forgot to un-mess. Like I said I never really did get it worked out, I gave up also notice that SYMPROXYSRV seemed to be hoarding up the processor - this I noticed by watching the task manager

    Thanks Newt and Lonny

Thanks for trying to help me. I did get rid of the Tgaddserver thing and read somewhere else about it using a proxy 8080 and changed those settings as well. Seemed to help a little bit. Thanks again

    Hello lorinbc,

You're not the only one having trouble with NIS - one of the sysmptoms is slow internet acccess http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=31945

BTW, noticed that you have LOADQM running on startup. This might be of interest from this site http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm

    Quote from the site:

This task loads the MSN Queue Manager and is installed when you install MSN Explorer or MSN Messenger. LOADQM gobbles up system resources and appears on most end-users’ Task Lists who come to us complaining of low System & User Resources or very slow, “crawlingâ€, PCs. In December 2003 this is still one of the worst behaved Microsoft programs !
    Recommendation :

Disable immediately, or Delete using The Ultimate Troubleshooter ../TUT_pages/TUT_information.htm. Next, reboot your PC and find LOADQM in the C:\WINDOWS folder. Rename it to LOADQM.EXE.OLD as if you do not it will otherwise get put back in your Task List at some stage or other (on some PCs you may need to boot into Safe Mode before you are able to rename LOADQM). Note : LOADQM gets re‑installed every time you install a new version of Microsoft’s MSN Messenger

    End quote

    Regards - Charles
