I've been getting pop-up ads (randomly, not related to any web sites I'm visiting) for the past couple of weeks, despite running Ad-Aware and Spybot several times and doing a full virus scan. I can't seem to figure out where they're coming from.

Here's my HijackThis Log. Is there anything here I should fix?

    Logfile of HijackThis v1.97.2

You've run adaware and Spybot?
They should pick this stuff up?
Have you updated them before running the scans?
There's a new version of spybot. Do you have it? If not...uninstall the old one before installing this one.

    *edit*
Nevermind. I read too quickly and I see you do have the new version of spybot.

Take a quick look through your add/remove programs for New.net. Is it there? If so. Remove.
Look for SideSearch as well. (Lycos?)

    sysbt.dll
    Both spyware. So yes.

    *edit*
Can you do one more updated adaware scan....put a check mark beside everything it finds and let it clean them out...then post your log again?

    More spyware
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [alchem] C:\WINDOWS\alchem.exe
so check the line for removal of the registry entry and then get rid of the .exe from c:\windows

Can't find information on this one so I think I'd remove it as well

If you loaded and want all the R0 & R1 websearch items, no problem since they seem to be legit but if you didn't, good to get rid of all those as well.

I too was suprised that Spybot and/or Ad-aware had not removed some of this stuff, but started working on a reply early this morning and will go ahead and post it now anyway. After re-running S&D and AAW, some of it may not apply.

First, go to add/remove programs and uninstall, if present, Wild Tangent. Reboot and scan again with HJT. Place a check next to any of these remaining entries. Close all other windows and click fix.

Thanks. I'll research that some more, as it's still recommended on alot of AV info pages for manual removal. Was not aware that HJT actually deleted the dll file. Was under the assumption it just took out the registry entry.

The last time hijackthis was updated was to change it so it would not unregister Dlls, as some were bobby traped.

thats why this setting in adaware is also recommended
UNCHECK: Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion

crazedmarilyn let us know if there are any problems or questions

Thanks everyone for all the help and quick responses! I've done everything that was recommended and will post my new HJT log in a sec... but one quick question...

So I should delete all the files in
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp,
    "... "\All Users\Local Settings\Temp,
    "... "\Default User\Local Settings\Temp,
    and "... "\Owner\Local Settings\Temp,
    or just one of those?
