    Hi all,

First time here. I would very much appreciate any help you can provide.

My computer has a W2K OS. I am trying to install my Canon Optura 300 video camara. It works in card read mode, but when I try and install in video read mode the computer goes into install new hardware mode and then hard reboots. If I leave the camara plugged in, it will continue this cycle of rebooting until I unplug the camara.

I have tried switching USB ports, didn't work.

I have a similar problem trying to my multi-card reader, only in that case teh computer just hangs.

I have installed other hardware without a problem (USB printer, USB2 CD drive).

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Jim

    Welcome aboard Jim! :)

Make sure that you have installed any W2K drivers/software that came with the camera before connecting the camera.

You have SP4 installed? As this will have some hardware compatibility updates that may help.

Check the Canon web site for any software/driver updates.

To stop windows automatically rebooting right click my computer|advanced|startup and recovery and untick automatically reboot. This will allow you to see the error message on screen. You could try typing some of the message into a search engine for online help, but will probably just point you to a generic hardware problem.

Check the windows event viewer for any clues as well. Start|programs|administrative tools|event viewer...
