Encryption has to be enabled at the wireless access point / wireless router. It's a good idea to do this one first, and a requirement if you're accessing the router via wireless! Tread carefully. Make sure you accurately copy the key you used for the router; you'll have to enter the identical key into your wireless card or its driver.

The how-to's are specific to your particular router and wireless card, but generally routers will respond to a local IP address and present one or more setup pages where you make this setting. Time to dig out the manuals!

On the laptop, the connection properties for the wireless connection is a good the place to start.

    Good luck.
