IE can be made more secure
Tighten the security levels, put a list of known bad sites in the restricted zone, use a good frequelty updated hosts file, install Spywareblaster and keep it updated.

The best list to add to the restricted sites zone is iespyadds, however i use this one, simply becouse its a little smaller and they also have a great hosts file, simple instructions for all of this :)
    See Recommended Minimal Security Settings:

Thanks for the advice. I've set up most of it.

One last question: I have a separate (perhaps) problem. I have NIS 2004 and Outlook 2003, but the Norton anti-spam stuff doesn't work in Outlook under my account. (No special "This is SPAM/This NOT SPAM" buttons; No Norton SPAM folder). It does work under my wife's & daughter's accounts. I had hoped that fixing all the stuff we talked about would fix that as well, but apparently not. Assuming this question is inappropriate here, any suggestions as to where to take it??

FWIW, cool web search returned once after I had removed it-- My daughter re-installed it. She liked the animated cursors. We had a talk. Should be fine now.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

When trying to follow your instructions on Spybot (not yet in the advanced mode) I again have been confronted with the next problem when in the
process of installing a download (this time Spybot):

    The error message reads:
Error (white regtangular menu with black letters)
    CLOSE or IGNORE
    Clicking IGNORE repeatedly, it says:
    Error: DdHELP, Msimn and Msgsrv32
Continuing clicking IGNORE shows: Fatal Error
CTRL + ALT + DEL does not help; clicking a key does continue the process and I could perform Spybot.

There are 3 reasons for my writing this:
    1) how to repair the problems with DdHelp, Msimn and Msgsrv32
    2) can there be any connection to the none-functioning of the program REGCLEAN (checkbar stops halway)
    3) I have ADSL, so I think I am always connected to the Internet and have read that some special action should be taken as there are programs which
disturb the download of Adaware, spybots, virusscanner.

Your help will be highly appreciated.

    Regards,
    Adriaan

IE will not let you change Options

IE would not let me change Options on my XP PRO as long as in backup (Ad-aware) I had spyware, even with Spybot locks uncchecked.
