I've started getting the following default error:
    Iexplore user.exe 0004:00000499

Does anyone know what I need to do to correct?

Also, this started popping up a few minutes ago:
    Unexpected Program Error
    #438
    Mudule Name Mod Auto Fill
    Procedure Name Auto Filler
    LIne # 112

If anyone can direct me to a solution, I'd sure appreciate it.

What operating system are you running?
What were you doing before the error occurred?
Have you done a recent scan for spyware?

First, open IE (hopefully, it will open), go to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab and uncheck "Enable third party browser extensions," click OK and OK again.

Then download, install, immediately update and then run Spybot and/or Ad-Aware. Read the help files to familiarize yourself with how they work. I recommend you use them both since each tends to find things the other misses. Let them clean up any spyware found.

After removing all the spyware those two programs can, go back and recheck "Enable third party browser extensions" and see if things are fixed.

Oops...wait a minute.....I didn't uncheck the 3rd party enable PRIOR to running Spybot and Adware......would this make a difference? It is checked at this time, but still get same errors.

I've repeated the whole process but still get the same errors.

    Gang,

I think I've just noticed that the Iexplore User.exe error pops when I am trying to go to a web site from my email.

Also, the auto filler popup did not start until after I ran Spybot and Ad WAre.

Does any of this info help??

My first comment above is not correct.....just tried going from BBS and typing in www.ebay and got the error and was kicked out of IE.

    Gosh, this is confusing??

OK...I'm still on a mission here.....went to IE6 and found this info under troubleshooting.

It has something to do with Visual Basic and a Combo Box. Solution is to do the following:

Add the following line of code to the Form_QueryUnload event handler:
    CoolBarName.Bands.Clear

Problem is, I don't know where to begin to do this?

    Can anyone advise??

BTW, I reloaded IE6 but it didn't help. Also, still getting the pop up on Auto Fill......still don't know how to fix.

elaine - I think we may need more information here.

start~run~eventvwr to open your event viewer.

Take a look at all the logs (system, security, applications and maybe one or two others but usually not). Check for errors or warnings that look related.

When you find one/some, open the event, click on the button below the up/down arrows (sends a text copy to your clipboard) and paste the results here. We need all of the event down to the part for sending into to M$. For example (and from my PC) if you were pasting info on this event, we'd want all down to the text shown in green but nothing past that.

    Hi Elaine,

Event viewer is an XP feature.
Have a feeling you got hit with a nasty. Scan your PC with RAV and Housecall. Post back with results please. If nothing found, please post a HijackThis log.

I think I've just realized something else. This happens when I leave a web site to go to another one. If I stay within that one web page, I can navigate to different screens, but once I leave is when it kicks me out of IE.

Also, think maybe the Auto Fill issue is associated with IE6, because when I upgraded to this, I noticed it has a new line at the top with auto fill, smileys, skins and a few other things.

I don't think I have a problem with a virus because I've run McAfee and nothing shows up.

With the info above, does this enlighten anyone of what I need to do?

Again, thanks to all of you.

    Elaine?
When you used Adaware....did you update it...run the scan...then put a check mark beside everything it found?
It still sounds like spyware to me?

elaine - there are at least a dozen situations where your problem could be caused by a virus that your AV doesn't see or, more likely, by spyware/malware that your AV isn't designed to see and will just ignore.

I think I'll move this to the security section for now. Most likely Daizy nailed it and your issues are there.

ok...I ran RAV and HOUSECALL...... found several Java application data that was not cleanable. Also, Windows\3_0_1browserhelper3.dll-clicker:win32/Defl->. Also, Windows media player\wmplayer.exe - TrojanDownloader:win32/IeFear->

Does this list mean anything to anyone and if these are causing my problems, how do I correct?

Don't understand why neither virus scanner would clean these>

Absolutely they could be. But let me ask AGAIN.............. have you downloaded adaware....updated it....and put a check mark beside everything it found?

    How to configure adaware

    Daisy,

Yes, I did that first after someone suggested it today. As a matter of fact,I've done it twice today, after updating. Still have some issues.

I editted my post while you were posting. Sorry about that.
Please go back up to the link I provided.

It's not so much that I'm doubting you...but truly do believe that adaware should be getting rid of some of the things you mentioned. In particular, the search bar.

Take a quick look through your control panel and add/remove programs....to see if you've got something such as Search companion, or search something or another. If you do...remove it from there.

Can you do a ctrl/alt/del for us as well...and list what you have running in the close programs dialogue box?

This is absolutely fixable. Though it might not seem so at the moment.

    Great.
Do you remember what those issues were?
    Have you been through add/remove?

Time to do another scan at housecall. Make sure to put a check mark beside your hard drive and put a check mark in to auto clean as well.
Write down anything it finds...and post it.
    Anything it can't clean...delete.
