    Hi, thanks for reading:

I've got a cable modem and two boxes runnig WinXP Home. All updated and patched ad nauseum; both work fine when connected seperately to the modem.

I bought a DI-604 Ethernet Broadband Router from D-Link, and followed all instructions. It connects and runs just fine with the primary computer on which I access the firmware- based configuration setup.

However, on the second box, the router does not appear to acknowledge it at all; it's not the cable, as I've attached it directly to the cable modem with success, and it's not the ports on the back of the router as I've switched 'em and stl only the primary box connects and works fine. I've written D-Link for help and checked their FAQs till I'm blue in the face with no results..

Anyone got any thoughts on what might be causing this problem?

    TIA,

    Jim

    Welcome to the board.

First check your network setup, make sure that "Obtain an IP address automatically" is checked and not "Specify an IP address "

Next open a command prompt and do the following commands one at a time:

    ipconfig /release

    ipconfig /flushdns

    Reboot your computer.

If that doesn't work come back here and we'll look into other possibilities.

Thanks Kevin- it turned out to be a matter of setting the NIC to 10 half duplex!

Glad you found the problem, my son has the same problem on his computer, the wiring isn't very good between his room and the router. Some day I'll get around to replacing it, in the mean time he can still get on the Internet and hardly sees any difference in speed.
