I am currently running a domain controller (only 1) on a Windows 2000 advanced server. I have a new server that I want to install Windows 2003 and use this as the domain controller.

I am looking for some white pages to help me move active directory, dns and dhcp to the new server and take the old server off line.

    Thanks

    one more question.

On the Windows 200o advanced server, I had to edit the registry because I needed lastname, first name initial. Which was the opposite of the default. Will I have to do this on the Windows 2003 server?

Also, I am running in Mixed mode. I don't have any other Domain Controllers, just never changed to Native mode. Will this matter?

you will want to remain in mixed mode if:

    1. you have windows 9x or nt machines on the lan

    and/or

    2. still using wins

You can switch to Native Mode with Win9x and NT clients/servers still on the network. You'll just have to run WINS for the down-level clients still but you can run WINS in a Native Mode environment. We do this very thing.

You'd only want to stay in Mixed Mode is if all your domain controllers are not running Windows 2000 or great and your not implementing (or not fully implementing) Active Driectory.

It should be noted that the change to Native mode is aone time, one way deal

If you dont "need" to go to Native (certain AD operations and AD aware apps require it) then it may be as well to hang fire - you never know when you might need an NT box !

You can still put an NT box on a Native Mode Windows 2000 network as long as the NT box is a client (workstation) or member server.

Once running in Native Mode you cannot have any pre-Windows 2000 domain controllers.
