Several posts in various Windows forums recommend running "regsvr32 regwiz.dll" before installing the XP Service Pack 1 if you have XPAntispy installed (apparently Antispy disables this dll, which the service pack needs). I uninstalled Antispy and then tried to run the dll, just to make sure, but got an error message that the file could not be found, and indeed the file is not in the C:\Windows\System32 directory. I did a search and could not find the file anywhere, including the registry.

Could the file have been deleted, or could it not have been there in the first place? If I do need it, could I get it and reinstall it from the CD that contains the OS, and how do I do that?

Windows XP Home edition on Gateway 500, less than 2 years old with no updates installed. Not sure what other info you may need, let me know. I don't want to go ahead with service pack installation until I get this resolved.

    Thanks,
    petrhick

    Hi petrhick
Welcome to the boards! According to Microsoft, the command is actually:
    See here.

Are you sure you've been attempting it properly?

What is strange is that typing only "regsvr32 licdll.dll" (without the ".exe ") in the "run" box worked just fine. So why would it not work with regwizc.dll? But I'll try it again when I get home.

    Thanks for the article.
