Below is an edited version of an suspect e-mail that I received.

The attached file was named Document.zip and contains a file named
    qydqmcysq.exe+

I know that it is a bogus e-mail because the From & Reply to address's are different. Also the e-mail server/domain is owned & maintained by my son and we haven't received any complaints.

I have not run the exe file so I'm not worried about being infected but when I scan it with AVG antivirus (free) it says no virus is detected.

My question is if there is a place that I can send this file to have it checked to see if it is a new virus?

    Thanks

    w32.Beagle.J and .K most likely.

Interesting that your AV didn't pick up on the critter unless it was destroyed before it reached you.

    Newt,

    Thanks for the fast reply...
Yes that's what it is, right down to the byte size.

& yes it is disapponting that it was not found by AVG, although the site you sent me to said,
Question: If the virus had been destroyed before it got to me wouldn't the file size have been different?

    Thanks again.

I would have expected it to.

Did you get a .exe attachment or a .zip?

The attachement was named Document.zip ... it contaned a file named qydqmcysq.exe+ and it's size was 12,288, just like what Symantec says the size of the W32.Beagle.J@mm virus file is.

I sent all this info to AVG's tech or support e-mail address telling them that AVG did not find the file to be a virus & asking them if it was a new one... But I never got a response from them. Maybe because I use there free version, which they do not give support for. But I stated in my e-mail that I wasn't asking for tech support because I did not run the file, just wanting to inform them of a possible new virus that there program did not find....

Any way, thanks for the help in identifying what virus it was. I will delete the e-mail that it came in & continue to be cautious.

What AntiVirus programs do you recomend?

AVG is highly recommended - there are several which do a good job and have their supporters. See this thread ...

Today one will be marginally better than another - tomorrow it will be another one.

    Followup

I just updated AVG & tried scanning the virus/worm file again... & AVG still does not detect it. TrendMicro Housecall & Panda Active Scan both detected it.

I have notified AVG a second time about it's programs failure to detect this.
And got what looks like a form response telling me how AVG free user's don't get tech support, even tho I stated in my e-mail that I did not need support but was only letting them know about there programs failure to detect w32.Beagle.J and .K worm.
