Nasty hijacker. See this from Spybot. If no help, removal tool. If still having problems, post a HijackThis log. Download it from the CWShredder link in my signature. If you've never used it, see my post here for instructions.

Does it eventually continue on or does it hang on C2.lop? This was a problem on some computers a while back (hanging on C2.lop) but was supposed to have been fixed in a newer version. I ran into it a couple times but a newer version did take care of it for those puters. If you have the newest version and it still hangs, the only way I know of around it is to exclude it from the scan. To do this you have to start spybot in advanced mode and click on the excludes button. Then find it in the list and put a checkmark next to it.

If it's just slowing down and continues to run, I wouldn't exclude it unless it's an unusually long time before it continues. You have to be the judge.

It does eventually continue but takes forever to go through four files before going on. I'm using the 1.2 version. I was reading another post about a similar product and downloaded it (Disk cleaner) and used it too.

While you have version 1.2, and 1.3 is not out yet to the best of my knowledge.
It is the detections that needs to be updated. It is in the detection files that the corruption of the C2.LOP exists, not in the Spybot program. Have Spybot update itself, this is much like updating your AV program.

OK, I've tried to update the files library but Spybot keeps freezing on me. How do you do an auto update?

Click here for the author's directions with pictures. He has a animated Flash Tutorial there, if you click on that link.
BTW, do a new scan after the update.

MY version, which is the latest, doesn't have the online listed on the file checklist. This is starting to be a pain just to get Spybot working properly.

We have to first check for updates then using the drop-down to choose a mirror , the Australian mirror works best on my system.

At what point does the program freeze ?
    and note any error messages

Well then choose another mirror , if that one freezes end task do it again and try another untill it works or manualy update the program,

Question do you have it set to check for update at program start ? if so turn that off.
when doing these manuals have spybot closed !!!!
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=3957
Just run the exe on that one.

    and the cookie update>
    http://studserver.uni-dortmund.de/~su1669/spybotsd/includes.cookies.zip
download that then unzip it to the Includes folder.
    C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Includes

Please note though when we use the manuals it wont reflect the proper date when you look at the info and licence page.

    Updating Spybot "Includes" [definition] file

This is for all those folks having similar problems with Spybot S&D.

I assume you're using a PC within a network. ??? If so, then the problem is likely with Spybot trying to access the download files via a proxy. I suggest pointing your browser to http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download and manually downloading the includes file. Then simply run it and Spybot S&D will be updated.

If you're upgrading to v1.3, make sure to UNinstall v1.2 first!

In spite of what it says on the SpybotS&D site about not having to uninstall v1.2 before installing v1.3, I have seen problems on various forums doing it that way. Perhaps best to uninstall v1.2 first to be safe.

Spybot acts buggy for me if I have the cursor set to auto focus windows. If I disable the instant window activation from cursor hover, I have no problems with Spybot, otherwise, it disappears before I can get my cursor to it, and will close itself. This is irrelevant to the original question, but it may help someone doing a search one day! :D

I installed the new Spybot right on top of the old, with no uninstall first, and it went flawlessly. I have AdAwarePro, but have come to rely on Spybot the most. Just my two cents.
