    Hi All,

Something has happened to my computer recently to prevent the monitor switching to power save standby mode following a period of computer inactivity. I have noticed that the monitor momentarily goes to a standby black screen but immediately switches back on.

    What could be wrong?

I am using Win XP Home with 1Gb RAM.

The system is probably seeing something running that it thinks is monitor activity.

    Screen saver active?

    Screen saver off.....

    Thanks for your reply Newt,

I have checked the screen saver and confirmed it is off.

Is there a way I can check for other possible running programes?

    Regards etc.....

This page has many related articles showing causes of not entering sleep mode.

Do a search on the page (ctrl-f) for sleep.

    Internet access causing problem....

I have discovered that having my internet access online is causing my problem. I have got into the habit of staying online for long periods as I have an ADSL connection. I now disconnect when not actually using the WWW.

What is actually causing the problem I do not know – a programme must be polling my computer.

    Is this a security risk?

    Regards etc......
