In W98se, how does one move the following four folders (My Documents, Favorites, address book, email storage) off the system partition?

Using Ghost, if anything happens to my system and I need to restore the image, I don't want those folders' current info to be lost.

Also, I would like to be able to use these folders in a multi boot situation.

Is this done by manually editing the registry?

If so, how do I find those keys to edit?

    Thanks! for your help.

    Later:

    I'm learning!

Did a search for "address book" in this part of the forum and came up with a 3-page thread on registry editing.

Teaches me to do a search BEFORE asking questions

    Another question

Do I change the name "Default," or the name of the folder on the Data side, or put e.g. "e:\" (no quotes) in front of the name of the folder on the Data side?

Exactly HOW do I change those?

    Thanks :)

This is not just a one step process.

Just change the drive letter. ie. change C: to D:

Also do a serch and change. And then restart Windows and do and another search.

    Very important item here.

When you get things changed to what you desire.

Go to C:\Windows\Sysbckup folder and DELETE ALL RB00X.CAB files Then restart Windows and it will make a new one.

If by some chance the RB00X.cab ffiles are not there lete us know and SOMEBODY will help to get them. As of right now I forgot where the setting for it is.

If this is not done and Windows ( or you ) decide to use one of those files your changes WILL BE LOST.

ALSO any backups ( you mention IMAGE ) you already have will be wrong. They need replacing also.

    THANK YOU!! BillyBob:)

    BillyBob,

I FINALLY got the courage last evening to try finishing the move of the docs and favs folders in Explorer by right-dragging and then "move here ". Cuz everytime I'd tried it before, I had never seen that "move here" menu, never having taken it to the end.

So, after moving them that way, I went into regedit and changed all the (Default)s I found; but didn't change anything else which pointed to the old location--such as files which had been unzipped, etc.

Just now after reading your kind post, I went into regedit and finished all the rest of the changes--except for two which I will note below--.... found the .cab file made this morning and copied it to my e: drive--just in case-- deleted all five .cabs in sysbckup and rebooted. Now I have just rb000.cab in there.

I did find a couple of entries that I'm not sure what I should do--if they need to be changed or left alone??

They both have (Default) under Name

    Under Data one is
"My Documents Folder on Desktop" (which I don't like there so removed long ago)

    the other is

    "Favorites Band "

Thanks! again for all your help. :)
