My taskbar is set to auto-hide so i can use the whole of my screen, however since i installed MSN Messenger 6.2 and Messenger Plus however I cannot see that this would be the reason since I have had this problem before without installing them and the only way i fixed that was with a full re-installation of XP.
    Any Ideas??

Try checking your system files and replacing any that are missing/damaged.

    start~run~sfc /scannow

I don't know why this works but it often does...both for the "won't auto hide" problem and for the "double height, can't change it" problem.

If you use the Quick Launch feature, right click on the Task Bar, point at Toolbars, click on "Quick Launch" to uncheck it. Click OK. The Quick Launch portion should disappear.

Go back and click on Quick Launch again to re-enable it, click OK. See if auto-hide starts working again.

If you don't use Quick Launch, first enable it then disable it.

Ahhh...the old "toggle" trick. Comes in handy for many XP functions, huh? :D
Might even want to reboot in the middle of it all, hotpants.

Thanks for that. It appears that getting rid of the quick launch toolbar and putting it back worked. Finally my computer is back the way I want it.
    Thanx 4 ur help.

Glad you got it sorted out, hotpants.

Johanna...thanks for the compliment. I must compliment you, too, on recognizing that my nick, Miz, indicates a person of the female persuasion. You have no idea how many people have asked me, "Miz, you male or female?" Gotta' love 'em. ;)

Miz, it never crossed my mind that you might be a guy! Perhaps it's because I've never known you to be WRONG? That would indicate a male to me, in a heartbeat! Zander keeps on asking the same question, and I already told him the answer. Silly men. They don't realize that even if we make a mistake, we are still RIGHT, and even more so, if they happen to disagree. ;)

Seriously, the "Marvelous Miz" comment wasn't flip. You've earned my respect, and I've learned a lot from you, and taken notes. I appreciate the time you take to post. And if you are ever near Dayton, Ohio, I owe you dinner for teaching me the normal.dot trick in Word. It certainly works better than pounding my head against a wall!

    Cheers!

    hotpants...

I get the SpywareInfo newsletter and there was this little ditty about Messenger Plus being bundled with spyware...

    http://www.spywareinfo.com/newsletter/archives/june-2003/3.php

Mike reccomends removing it and try Trillian instead. I have not used Trillian so I cannot reccomend it but maybe some of the other BBSers have and could.
