I am working in Excel 2003, and I am doing a training exercise trying to calulate how many days old I am today.

Here is the problem. The cell that I suppose to get the result in is coming up as a date.

I went to the tool bar and went ot format cell, clicked cell on the format menu to open the Format Cells dialog box, click the Number tab, and click General in the Category list.

The date changes to "19687 ". It should change to 54, because that is how old I am.

Where do I go to change the format of the cell to 54? I tried all the different format options.

    Thanks

You want days or years? 19687=53.936 yrs

    Format Cell

    Aleekat,

I realize that this 19687=53.936 yrs. My problem is that I am trying to format the cell which reads 19687 to 53.936.

I went to the Format Cells Dialog Box, Click Cells on the Format menu to open the Format Cells dialog Box, click the Number tab, and click General in the Category list. It still does not format into the 53.936. Am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks

If you using a formula to calculate this, then I think you need to add /365 at the end of the formula. Is this what your doing?

    Format Cell

I got it! I went to the Format Cells dialog Box, and picked custom. I entered in "yy" because I was trying to calculate how old I was and the 19687 formated into "53 ". I just figure that I was limited to only the choices in the dialog box. Man this Excel is a powerful tool, that is why I am trying to learn all I can about it.

Thank you so very much for your help and your time. I look at the this web sight just like reading a newspaper. I love to learn things about the computer, it helps me a work, and at my church.

Thanks again and may God Bless you.
