    Hi, im having problems with my MB and CPU. Just got the following:

    Its a::
    MATSONIC --- MS8308EP(266)
    with::
    AMD Athlon XP 1700+
    256MB SD133RAM

    Default settings are as follows and the thing doesent crash...

    CPU Brand: AMD K7
    CPU Type: Athlon XP
    CPU Speed: 1100MHz
    CPU Vcore: 1.504v
    CPU Freq: 100MHz
    DRAM Freq: 133MHz

    But when The CPU Freq option is set for 133MHz which is what the clock speed should be (giving me "1700+ ") win2k to crashes frequenty when asked to do anything hard like run games or Video editing/compression.

    I know it should run at 1463MHz at 133Mhz clock. The MB is jumperless so i can only assume that the multiplier is properly set (at 11x)

    I know its not the CPU as its fine in my Asus A7V333 and the MB is fine as ive put older athlons in it.

    Can anybody help?

    many thanks,
    Stuart.

    Do you have a heat problem with the CPU under load? Is the heatsink and fan the correct rated one for the CPU. Any dust in the fan and heatsink?

    Yes, sorry Stuart, I edited the reference to resetting the BIOS as gathered you already did that.

    Hi, have done that, started it from fresh. Whenever it runs at 1700+ (1463MHz) high demand software crashes... so to does burn-in testers etc. But all is fine at 1100MHz which is 363 MHz slower than it can do.

    Stuart.

    Sounds like you have a memory or memory timing problem to me. Best single source reading I'm aware of is here Yup!
    Even though you say you are jumperless - most boards are these days, but I'll bet you can set that puppy's speed in your BIOS. You may also want to bump your core voltage slightly. Those 1700+ were among the best socket A chips ever produced if you got a good stepping.

    ;)

    Stuart,

    The best source of answers for this type of problem is Here There you will find forums dedicated to every make of mobo. I had a similar problem with an Asus and an Athlon 2500+
