Is there any way to continue a download after your connection gets cut off without having to start the download all over again. I know there are downloaders that will pick up your download where it left off but is there a way to accomplish this without using one?

No albert, you need a Download Manager. The standard Windows 98
download program does not store it's progress to allow a download resume.
You can buy Download Accelerator Plus for about USD 30 a a good buy -
    I can recommend it.

Not so sure on this, Merlin - IE 6 seems to pick up a download if the connection is dropped, providing that IE has not been closed? Certainly works this way with Windows Update.

Pete, a dropped line or a power-out will kill IE also. As far as I know the
download will be started/stored to Windows/temp - and after a reboot or a reconnect, the OS has no idea what it has put in there.
Maybe, as you say, there have been improvements with IE patches,
but I have not seen anyone posting that they can resume a download
without a third party downloader - that's the reason they can still sell well.
    regards
