error message when trying re-install of windows 98

    compaq 500

    trying to re-install windows 98 and keep getting the following error
    Fault Module outside of Msdos Extender this is after subsequent trying different hdd and the memory stick 128 ram is new has anyone come across
    this before?

    Hi rodger, Have you tried running Win98 setup.exe in Safe Mode ?
