Ugly black line in MS Word docs

I am filling out a job application in MS Word 2002, and through hitting enter/return, have inserted a thick black line going straight accross the page. It does appear on the printed page, so I would definitely not like to appear to be a doofus who can't fill out a doc without goofing up the formatting, to the person who might be giving me a job.

How do I get rid of it? I recall this happening before, but have forgotten the workaround for this, if there is any. Man this sure makes me wish for the reveal codes function. Oh that was so nice. Oh well. 15% of my annual salary (if I get the job) to the first person who posts the workaround for this problem. Thanks.
    :)

What about doing a find for normal.dot? Change it to abnormal.dot or oldnormal.dot or something you can keep track of.

Try clicking on the black bar itself in the document and seeing if it can be deleted?

    *edit*
    Or................. this?

Nope, neither solution worked. The MS article seemed geared toward the error of a bar going across teh monitor screen, as opposed to teh document itself. Thanks anyways.

If you roll your cursor over the line, does it change to 4 arrows? If so, click on the line, small box should appear at the beginning of the line, then hit delete.

If it does appear on the printed page....
have you tried copying and pasting the "good parts" of the document into a fresh new one, to see if it does the same?

You had no problem renaming normal.dot?

When I roll the cursor over it, I get two things (depending on if I click on doc first)--either a black bar that signifies blocked out text (clicking delete doesn't get rid of it), or a small line with an arrow pointing up and another below the line, pointing down.

No problem renaming normal.dot, or in getting Windows to gimme a new one. It just didn't solve the problem.

Thanks for the suggestion to copy/paste. Like I said, this is a downloaded online ap, so I'd rather try to get this in the original document if I can and use the MS Word reply function, but yeah if nothing else works, I'll just send it as an attachment. I just re-read the instructions and they want me to print it up and send it in anyways, so yeah right now I'm copying/pasting. Thanks again. Sometimes the simple solutions are the best, aren't they?

Is it possible that you've just created a page break, when you've hit enter?
Sorry.....I missed the part about it being an online job application.

Oh Daizy this must be the meanest page break ever created

Whatever it calls itself, I just want it out of my document.

At any rate, I'm finishing it now, and copy/paste seems to work quite well.
