Does win 2000 pro use ATA-133 (UDMA 6)? My system is capable, both my
ide controller, and The hard drive, but windows defaults to ATA-100 (UDMA 5). The BIOS recognizes ATA-133, so I think it is a windows problem.
    Thanks

    Welcome aboard johna1940, :D

I'm guessing a bit here. ATA 100 wasn't supported in W2K till Service Pack 2.
I'm guessing ATA 133 should be supported if not by SP2 then with SP3 or 4. Can't find any MS knowledgebase reference to ATA 133 (UDMA6) so it looks like it should be supported.

After a little more investigation I found the following site http://www.clankiller.com/tech/win2ktweaks.php that MAY help?
I would have hoped that in SP3 or 4 any tweak of the registry would not be necessary? Maybe it isn't. So up to you if you want to try it.
Our work W2K machines don't have this tweak but seem to be running at ATA100.

My MB is an ASUS with Nvidia chipset. I went to Nvidia's website and they had an IDE driver in exe form. I downloaded and ran it. ATA-133 (UDMA 6)
is now working. ASUS had told me it was a windows problem.
Thanks for your help. John Arnett
