    On menu bar:

Tools>Internet Options>General Tab and under the "Homepage" section you can change it there. Three choices or you can type in a URL for any other page you might like.

  3. to hide this advert.

I Navigated there but when I Press "Use Default" it changes my homepage to a page I do not want to have as a default. How can I change this button "Default" to the home page I want?

Are you comfortable editing your registry? And what OS?

Hi Mike, before you try the registry edit as suggested by Newt, navigate to the home page you would like to have then in Tools>Internet Options>General - Home Page, click on the "Use current" button. This should set the current page that us up on your IE to the home page. If you find this newly set home page will not "stick" or is hijacked to some undesirable page, you may have spyware/hijack problems. If so post back and someone can help clear this up.

    Ie 6.x Home Page

    Hi

I too, am having home page problems wiith IE 6.0.2800.1106 running on Win 98 SE. All started with my latest update of IE 6 to ensure I have the latest security. I've always loaded IE with a blank home page but now, MSN constantly imposes itself and takes over. I don't want MSN but don't know who the remedy, probably I need to remove a Registry key.

I don't mind doing this provided I know what to remove. I always make a BU to the Desktop first.

Can anybody please tell me how to correct this such that my chosen setting of `USE BLANK ' remains constant. [By the way, if I choose a favourite newspaper page for instance, MSN now knocks that out and injects itself.

    Grrrrrrrrrrrr!

    Thank you.

I forgot to add that I don't have problems with `pirating or hijacking by other malicious sites' only with MSN. I run Spybot, AdAware and IClean. I have noticed in the past week, AdAware is removing some Registry lines something not seen before. Have had it three times of late. No, I'm convinced the culprit is Microsoft and it's MSN web page from an update.

    Mike1Webster,

Navigate to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main. Right click and modify the Default_Page_URL entry to what you want it to be by copy/paste the address.

    Ie Home Page

    Thanks Dave

Will try that - a registry key I presume. What appears on screen when `blank is the default [set by me] selection is `about:blank'.

Do I sub this in the registry line when I find it...or simply add nothing?

    Thanks again.

    IE 6 Default Home

    Hi Dave

No need to reply. I found it. I changed it. It works.

What threw me initially were the letters HKLM in your message string.

    Thanks.

Mike - it sounds like you may have been messed up by some spyware. To save me lots and lots of typing, take a look at http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm and follow the advice there.

The only change is when you get to the part about generating a Hijackthis log and posting it, post it here.

Thanks for the link; I already have Spybot installled and am sure I haven't been hijacked. I went back into registry and went to HKey Current User etc.l
Last time I edited under Hkey Local Machine etc. I navigated to Main and then changed my default page and it worked this time. I guess I didn't understand the original directions. Hopefully I havent messed anything else up. I did go back to HKey Local Machine and erased the string under the default setting.

    Thanks.

    Ie 6.x Browser Default

    Hi Dave et al

Editing the registry to have Internet Explorer 6.x open to a blank page has once again failed. After working fine for 24 hours, this morning Microsoft Network [MSN] again hijacked my browser. The highjacking address is:
http://www.msn.com/ I've tried several times and each time Explorer opens to this page.

Changing the default in Options doesn't do it - well doesn't last, the change is temporary but it used to be permanent. I recently ran the update for IE 6.x and I suspect that's when the situation changed.

I can go back in and edit the default but I suspect the hijacking will continue.
Do you, or anybody else know, how to shut out MSN permanently. I have absolutely no interest in MSN.

    Thank you.
