Selective Startup

    MSCONFIG is used for Wins 98SE. What is the receipe for Wins 2000 to configure a selective startup? Desire to decrease boot time. Please advise. Thanks for your time.

    The filw you are looking for is BOOT.INI
    It is a system hidden file in the root of c: so make sure you have windows explorer options not checked (hide system files)
    Simple little text file, I changed my default time from 30 sec to 3 sec.

    No, just use a text editor, notepad is fine, and the file will probably be something like this

    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT= "Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect
    C:\ = "Microsoft Windows "


    Just change the timeout=30 to something a bit smaller, I have mine at 3 but just however many seconds you want to wait
