    Hi sutsujsti,

Are you by chance using Quick Launch? If so disable the feature and see if that helps with your problem.

When you log off and then log back on, and Mozilla won't open, have you checked the Task Manager to see if Mozilla is listed as open?

Have you deleted your Cache folder, the history.dat, and the XUL.mfl files? If not, close Mozilla and Quick Launch and delete the folder and two files. They are located in your *.slt (salted) folder.

Are you using a Theme other than the default? If so, revert back to the default theme.

    Ramona :)

    Hi sutsujsti,

Can you give me a few of the links which you are unable to open? Thanks!

Yes, it is normal for the XUL.mfl grow to that size and larger. I delete mine every day.

I'm wondering if your system specifications meet Mozilla requirements:

    Windows Operating system

    Windows 98 Second Edition
    Windows Millennium Edition
    Windows NT 4.0
    Windows 2000
    Windows XP

Processor: Pentium 233 MHz (or faster)
    RAM: 64 MB
Free Hard Disk Space: 26 MB

    sutsujsti,

I can load the Posting Rules page in about 1 second, and I asked someone else to access the page, and the results were the same as mine.

Spyware can cause a slowdown of loading web pages. Do you have AdAware and Spybot installed? If so, I would run them both.

More files to delete, and let Mozilla rebuild:
    Chrome folder
    downloads.rdf file
The folder and file are located here:
    <path>/Application Data/Mozilla/Profiles/profilename/*.slt

Do this with Netscape and Quick Launch Closed

Did any of the above help?

    Ramona :)

    Good morning Ramona
Yes I run adAware and spybot all the time and did it again, It found nothing.
I deleated the chrome file, downloads rdf still does the same thing!
Maby you miss understood me on the page loading in this websight (strange thing just happened) when I said the page took about 45 sec. to load I meant it opened a new browser window! and loaded it there. So I had two windows open !
Also this is the page where I first discovered the trouble
    http://www.techtv.com/screensavers/darktips/story/0,24330,3426623,00.html
if you try the hyperlinks that are in the middle of the page (there are 3 real close together) cant rember there name but I dont think any of the links work on that page
    Thx for all your help

    Hi sutsujsti,

Yes, the Posting Rules page does open a new window. As for the links on the page you referenced, all of them work here. Have you tried disabling your firewall to see if that might be the culprit. Also check your HOSTS file for any unwanted entries. It would be located here: C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\....

    sutsujsti,

Go for it, 1.7b RC1 is very stable, and lots of bug fixes. If this doesn't solve your problem, then create a new Profile. You don't have to move everything, just see if you have the problem with the new Profile. If not, then you can copy over profile data from the corrupt Profile.

    sutsujsti,

No, don't reinstall XP, this is a browser problem, and I don't believe it is OS related.

    Good luck with 1.7 RC1.

Well 1.7RC1 is running good but it did not take care of my trouble! (But the new profile does) so it looks like I will move all my mail over to the good one!
1.7 seems to be faster!! It was a simple switch ! Glad I did it ! Have not found to many diff. from 1.6 but just the load time makes it worth the switch. now all I need to do is edit my pf js file to get my icons in my bookmarks
as far as the OS Its still on my mind ! I have a game (myst) thats made for xp but I cant get it to run, not even tech. help could figure it out well thx for all the help your the greatest

    sutsujsti,

1.7 is faster. From the Release Notes - "What's New ":

    Under the Hood

Mozilla 1.7 size and performance have improved dramatically with this release. When compared to Mozilla 1.6, Mozilla 1.7 RC 1 is 7% faster at startup, is 8% faster at window open time, has 9% faster pageloading times, and is 5% smaller in binary size.

One thing I might add, and that is keep frequent backups of your Profiles folder. Windows XP users seem to experience Profile problems more frequently than other OS'.

    Always a pleasure to help!

    Ramona :)

    Hi Ramona
    I figured out what was causing the trouble with mozilla! it was a line I added to my prefs js file. user_pref( "browser.chrome.load_toolbar_icons ", 2);
The way I figured it out was, I wanted to have the icons in my bookmarks so I added the line to my prefs js file in my new profile! And the new one started doing the same thing. So I took it back out and all is well
Just thought you might like to know

    Hi sutsujsti,

How I wish I had programmer intellect, and knew what that conflict was. I certainly have made a note of this, and I do appreciate very much your feedback! I never would have thought that particular script would have had any effect on your slow loading...

Maby it has somthing to do with cookies, when I first load mozilla I noticed a few icons asked permision to set a cookie when they were loading !. I cant remember when, but I changed my cookie pollicy not to long ago. Mabey that is what set all this in motion! Well I dont know for sure but its fixed! and I got 1.7RC1 to boot. The only thing I had trouble with 1.7Rc1 was getting a plugin! When I clicked on get the plugin, it just sat there and loaded and loaded and loaded so finally I went and got it for my self and installed it.
Well all is great! Its been a learning experence for me. see ya thx again
