    hi, well recently i got a trojan, used 3 anti virus programs to get rid of it, they didnt fully cure the problem. so i got fed up and just used my recovery CDs, this is where the real trouble began.

    while im setting up windows XP its freezing, kinda. after filling out location langauge and time zone it wants me to name my computer, i name it properly no spaces or hyphens, then i click next. it stops there nothing happens,the "back" "next" and "skip" buttons are shaded from selecting next so i cant do anything, same happens when i click "skip ". i can move the mouse but thats it. well then i tried shift+F10, and ran the command;

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>control
    it let me access my computer to a degree, well...i was able to install things..infact its the PC im using to type this right now. the thing is the set up screen is still there, stuck on the naming part of set up, i cant end task it cuz it resets my system after saying windows hasnt been full set up, i cant shut down my PC normaly either i have to do it manualy with the power botton.
    so im out of ideas and need to figure out how to fix this so i have regular full access to my PC.
    -please help

    Andraox - Welcome to the Board :)

    Your install is clearly fouled up - may be a problem with the Recovery CD's - check that they are not damaged and clean.

    MS Knowledge Base has several articles on problems arising during setup. none of which seem to be specific to your situation ...

    http://support.microsoft.com/search...L&maxResults=25&Titles=false&numDays=&InCC=on

    A couple of things you could try, but I doubt they will have any effect ....

    Run chkdsk /r if you can - being unable to shut the PC down properly may prevent this, but the recovery disks format the drive anyway and should have noted any errors.

    Start > Run > sfc /scannow - note the space - may or may not run under your situation.

    The basic problem is that there are probably registry entries pointing to the fact that setup was not completed.

    Bottom line is run the recovery disk(s) again - and pray :)
