This probably isn't Windows version dependent, but my computer's internal speaker makes a rather annoying beeping sound (that reflects the change in volume, I guess) every time I change the volume level using the system tray thingy. Anyone know how I might go about in disabling the beeping sound?

I'd never really noticed that behavior before but it certainly is there - although mine is a sort of 'dong' sound.

I looked around some and can't find any way to supress it. Not listed as one of the events that you can choose a sound for (or choose no sound). There may be a way but it wasn't obvious enough for me to figure it out.

Go to Control Panel>System>Hardware Tab>Device Manager. Click on "View" and then on "Show Hidden Devices." Expand "Non Plug and Play Drivers," right click on "Beep" and click on "Disable." You will have to reboot for the change to take effect.

I assume that turns off all system beeps since it apparently turns off the internal speaker. That means no post code beeps, I guess.

Thanks, Miz, that worked! No more annoying beeping when I change volume or press too many buttons at one time!
