While surfing, I clicked a link to a page that instead of opening, prompted me to download a php file. Without thinking, I clicked on "Open" and a blank page opened for editing in Dreamweaver.

Now when I try and get passed the Windows BBS start page, I get file not found errors. Also the icons on the start page are missing.

I had to borrow another computer to post this.

Can I just re-install IE to repair or is there a quicker way to solve the problem?

I have looked at the file associations and php is listed as being edited by dreamweaver. I have added an Open command and associated it with IE but that didn't cure anything.

This machine I am on now doesnt even have php files listed in file types so I am not quite sure where to go from here.

    Thanks

Try deleting your Temporary Internet files and Cookies (might be best to export cookies first - then they are not lost and can be imported later)

You don't say which OS you are running - if XP ....

Start > Run > sfc /scannow - note the space.

If you don't have Dreamweaver installed I would just delete the reference to *.php in File types - doesn't show on my m/c either.

Thanks for the help Pete. I did as you suggested and that didn't cure the problem, although I have no doubt it will have cured a few others.

What did happen however is that windowsbbs.com didnt come up at all, it turned into a page reading "Test page for WindowsSec.com "

I looked at the hosts file and found an entry hijacking this site. Once deleted all is fine.

Suggest you look at this and also the lock/unlock *.bat files towards the bottom of the page.

This will prevent any further hijacks of your hosts file.

That's probably me... If you remember, when doing the server change I told people to add the IP 67.15.18.52 to the hosts file to get to the BBS when the DNS was "in transit "...

Today I've changed the IP address this site runs on, so...

I'll put up a note on the WindowsSec home-page...
